Henry C. Chism

Mr. Henry C. Chism, age 80, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Forrest City.

Mr. Chism, born Jan. 11, 1922, in Earle, was the son of Henard Chism and Nancy Bailey Chism. He lived in St. Francis County for most of his life and was a retired welding instructor with Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

In 1980 Mr. Chism married Peggy Cupp and she survives him along with a daughter, Tracey Fortenberry of Paris; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation services for Mr. Chism will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Chism will be held Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.


Tyrone E. Dent

Mr. Tyrone E. Dent, age 28, of Forrest City, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at University Hospital in Little Rock.

Mr. Dent, born June 18, 1973, in Forrest City, was the son of Jack Anderson and Grace Dent. He is survived by his parents; four sisters, Paula Parks of Forrest City, Yceychie Anderson and Ida Fields, both of Stockton, Calif., and Jackie Reed of Kansas City, Mo. and a grandmother, Ophelia Davenport of Forrest City.

Visitation services for Mr. Dent will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Dent will be held Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Redeeming Christian Spiritual Church with Pastor Therother Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.


Hattie Harris Hillard

Mrs. Hattie Harris Hillard, age 89, of Forrest City, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at St. Bernard Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Hillard, born Aug. 10, 1912, in Widener, was the daughter of Williams and Luiza Harris. She is survived by her husband Bennie Hillard Sr. of Forrest City; four daughters, Hattie Bekley, Louise McKinnely, Ettie McMorris and Vernel Williams, all of Forrest City; six sons, Theodis Hillard, Leo Hillard, Elmo Hillard, Jimmy Hillard, Bennie Hillard, all of Forrest City and Robert Hillard of Rockford, Ill.; 42 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mrs. Hillard will be held, Saturday, May 11, 2002, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs. Hillard will be held Sunday, May 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Union Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Charles Latham officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.


Perry Thomas Jones

Mr. Perry Thomas Jones, age 54, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Jones, born Dec. 7, 1947, in Wynne, was the son of Vernie Jones and Vina Lee Grant Jones. He was a resident of Forrest City, prior to moving to Batesville and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a backhoe operator for many years and served as a district supervisor for Klaasmeyer Construction Company of Conway for over 15 years before his retirement.

Mr. Jones is survived by two sons, Tommy Jones and Michael Alexander, both of Jonesboro; three daughters, Patty Cox and Becky Jones, both of Jonesboro and Lisa Sharp of Harrisburg; a sister, Lori Hughes of Hardy; a brother Ricky Jones of Flint, Mich., and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin Wayne Jones.

Visitation services for Mr. Jones will be held Thursday, May 9, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held Friday, May 10, 2002 in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne with Rev. Alvin Swan officiating. Burial will follow in Crosslawn Cemetery in Wynne under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.


Carrie Hamilton McLaren

Mrs. Carrie Hamilton McLaren, age 96, of Memphis, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002.

Mrs. McLaren, formerly of Forrest City, was born July 27, 1905, in the Newcastle Community. She was the daughter of Dewitt Hamilton and Bertha May Waldrip Hamiton and had made her home in Forrest City for all of her life where she was a bookkeeper and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

In 1931 Mrs. McLaren married George McLaren and he preceded her in death in 1938. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra McLaren Wiese of Cordova, Tenn.; a brother, Luther Hamilton of Forrest City; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. McLaren will be held graveside, Friday, May 10, 2002, at Forrest Park Cemetery with Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
