Mrs. Nancy Griffin Hughes, age 71, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mrs. Hughes, born Feb. 28, 1931, in Norphlet, was a housewife and a member of Caldwell Baptist Church. She had lived in St. Francis County since 1996.
In 1950, Mrs. Hughes married James M. Griffin Sr., and he preceded her in death in 1999. She married Fred Hughes in 2000 and he survives her along with two sons, James M. Griffin Jr. and Thomas Andy Griffin, both of Marion; one daughter, Nancy Jo Griffin of Forrest City; a brother, Herbert Bates of Junction City; two sisters, Irene Scarborough of Norphlet and Cormay Hatcher of Smackover; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes were held today, Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hughes Cemetery.
Mrs. Lon Jo "Lonnie" Hargett Kimbro, age 80, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002.
Mrs. Kimbro, born May 2, 1922, in Blytheville, was the daughter of Letha Oakes and Jack Hargett. Mrs. Kimbro and her late husband, Hunter L. Kimbro, were former residents of Forrest City where they jointly owned Arkansas Paint and Glass.
Mrs. Kimbro was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of Homer Townes Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Church Women. She was also an associate member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church of Jonesboro, a member of Forrest City Musical Coterie and an associate of the Forrest City Junior Auxiliary. Mrs. Kimbro also worked and served as manager of the Forrest City Colony Shop for 18 years.
Mrs. Kimbro is survived by her daughter, Karen Lynn "Kitty" Weatherford of Jonesboro; a son Malcolm Keith Kimbro of Little Rock; a grandson and two step-grandsons.
Visitation services for Mrs. Kimbro will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church Ladies' Parlor. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City, Cornerstone United Methodist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sarah May Owen, age 67, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Owen, born Dec. 8, 1934, in Haynes, was the daughter of Sidney Young May Sr. and Mildred Wyona Curtis May. Mrs. Owen was a homemaker, educator and attended First Baptist Church. She lived in Haynes and Forrest City for most of her life.
In 1964, Mrs. Owen married William Henry Owen and he preceded her in death in 1967. She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Nellie Hogg of Sherwood; three brothers, Sidney Young May Jr. of Aubrey, Auby May of Haynes and Wayne May of Forrest City; one sister, Sylvia May Holiman of Nashville, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Owen were held today, Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Forrest Park Cemetery.
