Lady Panthers drop Lady Mustangs in straight sets

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs fell to Cabot's Lady Panthers in straight sets Tuesday, 15-0, 15-1, 15-0 in AAAAA-East Conference play at Cabot.

The Lady Mustangs remain winless for the year in conference play.

Forrest City revived its volleyball program this season after four years of not fielding a team.

The Lady Mustangs will travel to Jonesboro Thursday for a conference match against the unbeaten Hurricane.

In other conference matches, Jonesboro's Stacey Lewis led the Lady Hurricane with 23-of-23 serving, two aces, six kills and 15 digs en route to a 15-8, 15-2, 15-2 win over Jacksonville Tuesday.

Kristin Etter led the Lady Hurricane (21-0) with 18 kills on the night. Hillary Speer also had nine digs and 18 assists.

Middle blocker Allison Taylor tallied six blocks and setter Allyson Seagrave contributed 10 assists.

*Lena Awar had 12 kills and eight digs to lead Jonesboro Annie Camp to a 12-15, 15-5, 15-2 over crosstown rival Jonesboro MacArthur in the season finale.

Megan Kerley contributed 18 assists, while Katie Ranson also added 10 digs for the Whirlwinds, who improved to 13-9.

Annie Camp also won the junior varsity match 12-6, 13-7. Annie Camp's JV team finished the season 10-1.

*The Nettleton Lady Raiders did not need long to dispose of AAAA-East conference foe Batesville with a 15-1, 15-8, 15-7 win in high school volleyball Tuesday.

The Raiders (8-7, 7-2) were led by Christy Swindle, who had a match-high eight kills. Amanda Gregg had 15 assists with five digs, Taylor Williams added eight assists and four kills and Charla Kelly served six aces in the victory.

Nettleton's junior high won 15-2, 15-1.

*Lee Davis had seven aces, four kills and six assists to help lead Bay past Marianna 10-15, 15-5, 15-4 in 3AAA-South high school volleyball Tuesday.

The Lady Yellowjackets (12-12, 6-3) got contributions from Kim Bradford, who had eight kills, and Taffy Rogers with three aces.

*Micha Garihan served three aces on 12-of-12 serving with a pair of digs and four assists to lead Trumann past Harrisburg 15-10, 15-5 in 3AAA-South conference high school volleyball Tuesday.

Danielle Smith had three digs and Talia Payne hit an ace, three digs and three kills for the Lady Wildcats (6-9, 4-5)

In other games, Sylvan Hills defeated Pulaski Robinson 16-14, 15-6, 15-6.


Mustangs take down Wonder, twice

Forrest City swept West Memphis Wonder Tuesday night at Sam Smith Stadium.

First, the seventh-grade Mustangs used a pair of rushing touchdowns by Chris Tripp and a half-back pass from Tripp to Edward Combs to take a 20-14 win over Wonder.

Forrest City had to hold off Wonder late in the game by running out the clock on offense.

The seventh-grade Mustangs improve to 2-4 for the year with one game left to play.

In the eighth-grade game, the Forrest City White Mustangs used touchdowns by Michael Holland, Antonio Robinson, Rylan Nimocks and Wilson Parker to shut out Wonder 30-0.

All of the TDs were rushing scores except for Nimocks who caught a halfback pass from Robinson.

Holland added a couple of two-point conversions while Torrey Hunter tacked on a conversion run.


Hood places first

The 11th Annual Fall Ozark Mountain Karate Association's Sport Karate Tournament was held in Williford on Sept. 28.

In the Colored Belt Kata and Colored Belt Kumite events, Forrest City's Angel Hood took first place in the advanced 18-25 age group.

Hood is a student at Astin's Taekwondo in Forrest City.
