Mr. Junior Albert Griggs, age 88, of Crestpark Nursing Home in Forrest City died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the Veteran's Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Griggs was born July 25, 1914, in Newcastle, the son of John Griggs and Maude Griggs. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arie Lee Hicks, in 1976.
Survivors include four daughters, Alvah Griggs Washington of Forrest City, Sheila Lacy of Jonesboro, Deborah Franklin of West Memphis and Latricia Franklin of St. Louis; five sons, Odell Griggs Sr., of Houston, Ralph Griggs of Little Rock, Terry Griggs of Garland, Texas, Merlin Griggs of Houston, and Courtland Davis of Marianna; one brother, Elmer Williams of St. Louis; 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A wake for Mr. Griggs will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at the Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the Beth Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Rayfield Walker officiating. Burial will follow in West Tennessee National Cemetery in Memphis under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
