Mrs. Vera Janell Hammonds Smith, age 61, of Wynne, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Smith, was a homemaker and an active member of the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ. She was a longtime volunteer for the Baptist Hospice Program in Cross County and had 500 hours of volunteer service.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Johnnie Smith of Wynne; three daughters, Donna Sue Smith of Memphis, Susan Byrd of Rena Lara, Miss., and Lynne Rice of Marion; her mother, Virgina Hammond of Beedeville and a brother, Harold Hammond of Southaven, Miss. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Tim Hammond.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne. Burial followed in Johnson Cemetery near Wynne. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Directors of Wynne and McCrory were in charge of arrangements.
