Mr. William David "Duke" Alsup, age 75, of Forrest City, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Alsup was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Palestine, the son of Robert "Bob" Alsup and Florene Dover Alsup. He lived in St. Francis County for most of his life and was retired from Yale Hoists.
Mr. Alsup married Laverne Johnson in 1957, and she survives him along with one daughter, Jolene Cummings of Pine Tree; three sons, David Alsup of Palestine, Robert Alsup of Fox Lake, Ill., Alfred Johnson of Kingdome City, Mo.; one sister, Helen Lowe of Waynesville, N.C.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Alsup will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held graveside on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Bell Cemetery. Stevens Funeral is in charge of all arrangements.
Mr. Joseph Albert Berry, age 83, of Butlerville, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Berry, the son of Albert Fennie Berry and Minnie Linderman Berry, retired from Arkansas Best Freight in 1980, after 23 years of service. He was a member of Greenwood M.B. Church and was a deacon for 30 years.
Mr. Berry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Cathey Berry, of the home; a son, Richard Berry of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Kathryn Berry Sanders of Forrest City; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Joe Berry of Sherwood.
Visitation services for Mr. Berry will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe. Funeral services for Mr. Berry will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church with burial following in Butlerville Cemetery. Westbrook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
