Mrs. Vera Thomas Jones, age 56, of Forrest City, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock.
Mrs. Jones was born May 25, 1946 in Shaw, Miss., the daughter of Sam Thomas and Rebecca Thomas. She was an employee of WalMart.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Otto Jones of Forrest City; two daughters, Felica Depina of Atlanta, Ga., Rebecca Gregory of Jonesboro; two sons, Ashanta Jones and Calvin Jones both of South Carolina; three sisters, Geneva Lewis of Metcalf, Miss., Minnie Glover of Zion, Ill., Willie Mae Smith of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Eugene Thomas of Chicago, Ill., Sammy Thomas of Marham, Ill., Leon Thomas of Tupelo, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Jones will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Willie C. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
Mr. Alton Dalton Weeks, age 86, of Palestine, died Friday, Sept. 6. 2002, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
Mr. Weeks, born March 24, 1916, in Winfield, Ala., was the son of William Will Weeks and Etta Mae Weeks. He lived in St. Francis County for most of his life and was a farmer. He attended Old Fashion Pentecostal Church.
In 1936, Mr. Weeks married Lillie Mae Keenum and she preceded him in death in 1993. He is survived by a son, Dalton Gene Weeks of Palestine; three daughters, Dean Holt, Rachel Littlefield and Faye Bridges, all of Palestine; two sisters, Beatrice Hollis and Mertle Dean White, both of Marianna; 14 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Weeks were held today, Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
