West Memphis never really put together a big inning against Forrest City Monday, but they did score in each inning which was enough for a 12-2 win in AAAAA-East Conference action at the Sports Complex.

The Lady Blue Devils scored three runs in the first, twice in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Forrest City got single runs from Kanetra Pendleton and Risondra Deans in the varsity game. Deans, as a courtesy runner, scored after Rachel Sims walked in the bottom of the first inning.

Lady Mustang pitchers Mallory Nelson and Stacey Gracey gave up the 12 runs on six hits and 12 walks.

Forrest City falls to 3-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference.

West Memphis won the junior varsity game 12-3.

Chasity Lowe, Randle Ross and Leigh Anna Taylor each scored single runs for Forrest City.

Forrest City will host Brinkley today in a nonconference game at 4:30 p.m.

SEARCY -- The good news for the Forrest City golf team Monday was that the Mustangs defeated Searcy for the first time since starting the series.

The bad news for Forrest City and Searcy was that Jonesboro walked away with the team victory in a AAAAA-East Conference trimatch played at the Searcy Country Club.

The Mustang boys fell to 2-3 overall for the year as Jonesboro won the match with a 145 total over nine holes.

The Mustangs finished with a 172 to place second while Searcy recorded a 177 final score.

Jonesboro's top five players all finished with rounds under 40.

"If there is a better golf team in the state, I'd like to see them," said Mustang Coach Tommy Wheetley. "Jonesboro is heads and shoulders above the competition in this area and in our conference."

Josh Coleman led the way for the Mustangs with a 39 while Sawyer Ramsey had a 41.

Brian Hacker finished with a 42 while Jake Wade, the medalist against Marion last week, watched his short game go south, finishing with a 50. John Scott Carroll recorded a 51.

"Wade had trouble putting all day," Wheetley said. "He just couldn't get it going."

Jonesboro took home the medalist honors as Matt Sullivan, Stephen Cox and Chris Woodard all shared the title, each finishing with a 36.

In girls' play, Jonesboro won the matche with a team score of 83 while Searcy was second with a 86.

Forrest City could not finish the girls' competition when Marie Harris was forced from the course due to illness. Paige Poteet finished with a 68.

Jonesboro also won the junior varsity match with an 84.

Doug Drake shot a 56 while his brother, T.J. finished with a 75.

FCA 'Evening of Challenge' tonight at the Forrest City Civic Center

The "Evening of Challenge" will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

Miller sinks hole-in-one at Hamburger Open tournament

Until last Saturday, Forrest City Insurance Agent Al Miller had never hit a hole-in-one nor had he ever seen anyone sink one.

Miller, playing in the Hamburger Open two-man scramble at Forrest City Country Club, aced the Par 3, No. 5 hole, using a five iron.

His shot hit about three feet in front of the hole and bounced in the hole.

Asked about the shot, Miller said he did something he rarely ever does, "I hit the shot the way I wanted to hit it and for me that's rare."

Miller was partnered with Lowry Astin in the tournament and playing in a sixsome with Mallory Parker, John Stone, Jay Lindsey and Jay Hughes, all from Forrest City.

"I know that we all had a good time during the tournament," Miller said. "And we had an even better time after I made the shot. Suddenly, I had a whole lot of friends."

Miller becomes the third Forrest Citian to hit a hole-in-one in recent weeks, joining Charles Freeman and Dwight Lofton.

Miller and Astin finished 1-under for the tournament.
