Mr. Michael Hammond Carter, age 83, of Greenwood, Miss., died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, Mississippi.
Mr. Carter was born in Leflore County, Miss., and was employed by Farmers Supply Cooperative. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army Air Corp. Mr. Carter was also a member of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club, served on the Greenwood Leflore Airport Commission and was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Lucy Aldridge Carter of the home; three sons, Dr. Michael H. Carter Jr. and Alan W. Carter both of Greenwood, Miss., and Kirk P. Carter of Memphis; two sisters, Mary Ellen Cobb of Itta Bena, Miss. and Effie Ruth Nimmons of Senaca, S.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Carter will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, Miss. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, Miss. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.
