Mr. J.W. McCartney, age 84, of Forrest City, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mr. McCartney was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Remmel, the son of Wiley McCartney and Sarah Moore McCartney. He lived in the Forrest City area for the past 36 years and was a self-employed businessman.
Mr. McCartney married Jewell Thrasher in 1947, and she preceded him in death in 1990. He is survived by three daughters, Jo Ann Gardner and Joyce Feltman both of Hughes, and Sherry Taylor of Forrest City; two sons, Bobby McCartney and Billy McCartney both of Newport; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. McCartney will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home with Rev. Royce Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Donald Eugene "Donnie" McLaughlin, age 43, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Med in Memphis.
Mr.McLaughlin was born May 5, 1960, in Georgia, the son of Joe and Mary Crim of Byhalia, Miss. He was an employee of Consolidated Youth Services and was a Baptist.
Mr. McLaughlin married Sherry Chapman in 1978, and she survives him along with one son, Brad McLaughlin of Forrest City; a daughter, Melissa Hokanson of Colt, his parents; two brothers, Troy Meredith of Palestine and Clifton Meredith of Mississippi; a sister, Sherri Davenport of Caldwell and two grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. McLaughlin will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery.
