Hughes guard will continue basketball career at University of the Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE -- Hughes High School graduate Johnny Washington will continue his basketball career at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, beginning in the fall of 2003.

Washington, a 5-10, 160-pound guard, earned all-conference honors as a junior and senior while averaging 15 points, five assists and two rebounds per game last season.

Washington led Hughes to a 20-6 record and a conference and district championship as a senior and was a member of the Class AAA State Champion basketball team as a sophomore.

Washington will receive an Achievement Scholarship and Multi-Cultural Scholarship to attend Ozarks.

The scholarships have a combined four-year net worth of $20,000. The Achievement Scholarship is a leadership type scholarship based on participation in school, civic, community, and church activities and organizations. The Multi-Cultural Scholarship is based on significant achievement and academic excellence in high school and his African-American heritage.

Washington was a member of the Beta Club, FFA, Who's Who Among American High School Students and honor roll at Hughes. He was a Boy's State Delegate his junior year and was senior class treasurer.

The U of O Eagles finished last season with a 14-10 record.
