It's looking more like football around the town

While the high school Mustang football team was going through their fourth morning of summer drills, the seventh-grade coaches were busy handing out equipment at Lincoln.

John Burgess and Lewis Etheridge will help guide the seventh-grade football program this season, which kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when the team hosts West Memphis East at 5 p.m. That game will be followed by an eighth-grade Mustang game at 6:30 p.m.

Seventh-grade football has been moved back to first period this school year and practice will begin on the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 18.

"We won;t have as much time during first period with the seventh grade as we would in the afternoon, but we will have about 35 solid minutes to spend with the kids each day and we will do our best to make each of those minutes count," Burgess said.

Today was the first day that seventh-graders, who have had their athletic physicals, could pick up equipment.

For those who were unable to pick up equipment today, they have another opportunity -- Monday, Aug. 11 -- from 9 a.m. until noon at Lincoln Gym.

The Junior High Mustangs began summer drills today as the team prepares for their Thursday, Sept. 4 home opener against Brinkley.

The Mustangs open on Friday, Sept. 5, when they host Wynne.

Sign-ups continue for Fall leagues

Registration for the Forrest City Recreation Department's fall league softball, youth soccer and youth flag football leagues begins Monday, Aug. 4.

Youth fees for the youth soccer program, ages 4-16, are $15 per players living inside the Forrest City city limits and $25 for youths living outside the city.

Individual fees for the flag football league, ages 6-11, are 420 for in-town players and $25 for out-of-town players.

The team fee for the adult men and co-ed fall softball leagues are $250. The same team entry fee applies to the new 14-under girls' fast-pitch softball fall league, which is being formed for the first time.

Coaches in the 14-under fast-pitch league and the adult leagues can pick their own players.
