Eleanor Beach Beasley

Mrs. Eleanor Beach Beasley, age 80, of Jonesboro, formerly of Hughes, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at the Craighead County Nursing Home in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Beasley was born July 20, 1923, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of George Beach and Verna Beach. She grew up in Rome, N.Y., and was a graduate from Cornell University in 1946. She moved to Arkansas in 1949, and lived in the Hughes community from 1951 through 1996. She lived in Jonesboro from 1997 until her death.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, first in Hughes and later in Jonesboro. She served as a member of the East Arkansas Community College board of trustees. She was a president of the Hughes PTA, president of the Hughes Garden Club, president of the Hughes United Methodist Women, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the St. Francis County Farm Bureau Women's Committee, and was involved in many other community activities in East and Northeast Arkansas. She was a "Daughter of the American Revolution" and an honorary member of the "Daughters of the Confederacy."

Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband, Harry E. Beasley.

Survivors include three sons, David Beasley of Raleigh, N.C., Thom Beasley of Jonesboro and Harry G. Beasley of Cordova, Tenn.; two daughters, Nancy Beasley Lofton of Hughes and Jane Beasley Mason of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and 18 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Stevens Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Beasley will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Forrest Park Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's research Hospital or the First United Methodist Church in Hughes.


Lillian "Dixie" Goodwin Colvin

Mrs. Lillian "Dixie" Goodwin Colvin, age 83, of Forrest City, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Mrs. Colvin, born Sept. 25, 1920, in Parkin, married Augustus "Gus" Colvin in 1936 and he survives her.

Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Colvin are incomplete at this time. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Thomas Edgar Dodson Sr.

Mr. Thomas Edgar Dodson Sr., age 85, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Mr. Dodson, born Aug. 11, 1918, in Horn Lake, Miss., lived in Forrest City for most of his life and was a farmer and member of First United Methodist Church.

In 1947, Mr. Dodson married Carolyn Kincaid and she preceded him in death in 1955. He married Edith McGee Hall in 1968 and she survives him along with one son, Thomas Edgar "Tommy" Dodson Jr., of Forrest City; one daughter, Gladys Scott of Roe; a step-daughter, Mary Napier of Kimberling City, Mo.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation for Mr. Dodson will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at 2 p.m. in Steven's Chapel with burial following in Forrest Park Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church.


Exie W. Havener

Mrs. Exie W. Havener, age 72, of Pocahontas, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Mrs. Havener was a homemaker and a Baptist and lived in Brickeys for most of her life before moving to Pocahontas eight years ago. She is survived by two sons, Larry Havener and Michael Havener both of Hughes; a step-son, Clarence Ray Havener of Mississippi; two daughters, Donna Springer of Conway and Melinda Harris of Pocahontas; a step-daughter, Yonnie Boldie of Cherokee Village; a sister, Arzula Sybert of Pine Bluff; a brother, Hollis Steele of West Memphis; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Havener and two sons, Gene Havener and Timothy Havener.

Funeral services for Mrs. Havener were held on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park Cemetery in Marianna.


Richard G. Rockwood

Mr. Richard G. Rockwood, age 87, of Fort Smith, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Forrest City.

Mr. Rockwood was born April 23, 1916, in Fort Smith, the son of Richard G. Rockwood Sr. and Imogene Kuhn Rockwood. Mr. Rockwood was retired from Desoto Manufacturing and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.

Mr. Rockwood married Helen Lairamore Rockwood in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1993. He is survived by one son, Rick Rockwood of Greenville, S.C.; two daughters, Nancy Rockwood Wilson of Little Rock and Elizabeth Rockwood Casbeer of Forrest City; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Rockwood were held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at 1 p.m., graveside at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith. Stevens Funeral was in charge of all arrangements.
