Norman E. Barnett

Mr. Norman Edward. Barnett, age 78, of Brinkley, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in a Little Rock Hospital.

Mr. Barnett was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Equality, Ill., the son of the late Gilbert Barnett and the late Dorothy Dorman Barnett. He was a member of the Broadmoor Baptist Church and the Claude Sims American Legion Post #68 in Brinkley. He was a retired machinist for Yale & Town and served in World War II in the United States Army.

Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Betty McDowell Barnett of Brinkley; three sons, Norman Ray Barnett and Harold Barnett both of Georgia and Ed Barnett of Memphis; one daughter, Dotty Sidle of Memphis; a step-daughter, Kay Gordon of Brinkley; two sisters, Velma Shirley of Kansas City, Kansas and Louise Williams of Gerber, Ga.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Barnett will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.


Eleanor Beach Beasley

Mrs. Eleanor Beach Beasley, age 80, of Jonesboro formerly of Hughes, died Sunday at the Craighead County Nursing Home in Jonesboro. She had been in poor health for the past year and a half.

Mrs. Beasley was born July 20, 1923, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was the daughter of George Beach and Verna Beach. She grew up in Rome, New York, was a graduate from Cornell University in 1946, moved to Arkansas in 1949 and lived in the Hughes community from 1951 to 1996. She lived in Jonesboro from 1997 until present.

She was a 'Daughter of the American Revolution' and an honorary member of the 'Daughters of the Confederacy'. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, first in Hughes and later in Jonesboro. She served as a member of the Board of East Arkansas Community College. She was president of the Hughes PTA, president of the Hughes Garden Club, president of the Hughes United Methodist Women, a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the St. Francis County Farm Bureau Women's Committee, and was involved in many other community activities in East and Northeast Arkansas.

Mrs. Beasley married Harry E. Beasley and he preceded her in death in 1994. She is survived by three sons; Mr. David Beasley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Mr. Thom Beasley of Jonesboro, and Mr. Harry G. Beasley of Cordova, Tennessee, two daughters; Mrs. Nancy Beasley Lofton of Hughes, and Mrs. Jane Beasley Mason of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and eighteen grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Beasley will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sam Tracy Dillahunty, Kuhron Meurrier, Teddy Harrison, Pat Bonds, Jack Jones, John Horton, Kenneth McCollum, and Steve Bernard. Honorary Pallbearers are Sam Ashworth, John Stipe, and Gene Morrison. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 5:00 till 7:00 P.M., with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials are to be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the First United Methodist Church in Hughes.


Laura Bryant

Mrs. Laura Bryant, age 90, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Crestpark Retirement Inn and Residential.

Mrs. Bryant was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Moro. she was a retired housekeeper. She is survived by a brother, Nathaniel Thomas of East St. Louis, Ill.; a sister, Lorene Crumbly of Forrest City; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Bryant will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Beth Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Rayfield Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.


Lillian "Dixie" Goodwin Colvin

Mrs. Lillian "Dixie" Goodwin Colvin, age 83, of Forrest City, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Mrs. Colvin was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Parkin, the daughter of Lee Goodwin and Lou Spradley Goodwin. She lived in St. Francis County most of her life, was a housewife and attended the Forrest City Church of God.

Mrs. Colvin married Augustus "Gus" Colvin in 1936 and he survives her along with four sons, Raymond L. Colvin of Brownsville, Texas, Leonard Darrell Colvin, Carl A. Colvin and Ira Colvin all of Forrest City; a daughter, Georgia "Janet" O'Tinger of Crawfordsville, 30 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, Richard "Ricky" Allen Colvin, John Edward Colvin, William Earnest Colvin and Vernon Walter Colvin.

Visitation for Mrs. Colvin will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Colvin will be held at the Forrest City Church of God, at 3:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
