Jerry H. Armstrong

Mr. Jerry H. Armstrong, age 76, of Portland, Texas, and a native of Wynne, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003.

Mr. Armstrong, born Dec. 15, 1926, in Wynne, was the son of Forrest and Ethel Nuckolls Armstong. He moved to Texas in 1953, living in Corpus Christi, Texas, prior to moving to Portland in 1964. He was an employee of Reynolds Metals Sherwin Plant for 32 years before retiring in 1985.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, Patsy Montgomery Armstrong of Portland, Texas; three daughters, Cindy Morris and Cathy Campbell-McCoy, both of Portland and Kimberly Armstrong Powell of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Jean Bassett of Forrest City and Dorothy Wenzel of Helena; five grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Armstrong will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Caddo Valley Baptist Church with Johnny Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Caddo Valley Cemetery under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, 210 S. Alameda St., Corpus Christi, Texas, 78401.


George Gilbert Chipman

Mr. George Gilbert "Bubba" Chipman, age 70, of Palestine, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.

Mr. Chipman, born Jan. 14, 1933, in Palestine, was the son of Gilbert Chipman and Edith Johnson Chipman. He made his home in Palestine for all of his life.

Mr. Chipman is survived by one sister, Delores Jumper, of Palestine; one brother, Ron Chipman of Cordova, Tenn., and several other relatives and friends. Mr. Chipman was preceded in death by a brother, Aubrey Chipman in 1986 and a sister, Tolise Chipman Nosler in 1979.

Visitation services for Mr. Chipman will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Chipman will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Twin Assembly Church of God in Palestine with burial following in Salem Cemetery.


Dewayne Morris

Mr. Dewayne Morris, age 50, of Moro, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

Mr. Morris was born March 4, 1952, in Holly Grove. He was a safety coordinator, a veteran of the National Guard and a member of the Pentecostal Church of Moro.

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Janet Morris of Moro; a son, Johnathon Morris of Moro; a daughter, Nichole Morris of Moro; his mother, Eva Whitaker of Wynne and his father, J.C. Whitaker of Wynne; one brother, Buck Morris of Cherry Valley; and five sisters, Helen Martin of Blytheville, Pat McGee of Wynne, Johnnie Fletcher of Forrest City, and Keet Throgmorton and Natt Roberts, both of Moro.

Funeral services for Mr. Morris will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna with Rev. Rick Needham and Rev. Dwight Traylor officiating. Burial will follow in Marianna Memorial Park in Marianna.

The family requests memorials be made to the Pentecostal Church of Moro.
