Mary L. Cooney Babitsch

Mrs. Mary L. Cooney Babitsch, age 59, of Hardy, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Mrs. Babitsch was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Penn., the daughter of Eugene H. Cooney and Nina Mae Cooney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Evening Shade.

Mrs. Babitsch is survived by a daughter, Mary Jean Dennis of Hardy; one brother, Eugene Thomas Cooney of Wirth; a sister Dorothy Mae Peterson of Evening Shade; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Cooney Cemetery near Williford with Bro. Carl Higgs officiating. Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City is in charge of all arrangements.


John Earl Brown Sr.

Mr. John Earl Brown Sr., age 54, of Memphis, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Brown, born Nov. 1, 1948, in Forrest City, was the son of Guss Brown and Johnnie Grace Brown. He is survived by three daughters, Michelle Brown, Bonita Brown and Wendy Kay Parker, all of Little Rock; three sons, John Earl Brown Jr., of Little Rock, Orlando Brown and Roderick Brown, both of San Diego, Calif.; four sisters, Mae Nell Brown, Frances Brown and Michelle Brown, all of Chicago, Ill., and Denise Brown of Forrest City; 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at New Light M.B. Church with Rev. Jessie McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.


Annie Green McDowell

Mrs. Annie Green McDowell, age 83, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Mrs. McDowell, born Sept. 9, 1919, in Palestine, was the daughter of Green Arthur McDowell and Electa Alexander McDowell. She is survived by one sister Dorothy Mae Banks of Forrest City and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation services for Mrs. McDowell will be on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.


Amy Ree "Emily" Williams

Mrs. Amy Ree "Emily" Williams, age 99, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.

Mrs. Williams, born June 2, 1903, in Guntown, Miss., the daughter of James and Eddie Boozer Agnew, she was a Forrest City resident from 1912, was a retired housekeeper and a member of Salem M.B. Church. In 1924, Mrs. Williams married Andrew Williams and he preceded her in death. She is survived by five nieces, Odeaner Barksdale of Denver, Colo., Maggie Green, Ora Lee Williams and Armoura Summerville, all of Forrest City and Olivia Robinson of Little Rock; two nephews Houston Agnew of Forrest City and Herbert Agnew of Milwaukee, Wisc.; a great-nephew, Bennett Tubbs of Mesquite, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation services for Mrs. Williams will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Satruday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Salem M.B. Church with Rev. Vernon Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.


Leafy Lucas Wooten

Mrs. Leafy Lucas Wooten, age 90, of Parkin, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne.

Mrs. Wooten was born April 10, 1912, in Bessemer, Ala., the daughter of Sylvester and Myrtle Northcutt Lucas. She was a homemaker, a former clerk at Baddours Dry Goods Store in Parkin, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Parkin.

Mrs. Wooten is survived by three daughters, Johnnie Powers of Newport, Ann Scott of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mary Jo Givens of Greenwood, Miss.; one sister, Tommie Bailey of Forrest City; a brother Dean Lucas of Parkin; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wooten and a daughter, Evelyn Wooten.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 23. 2003 at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne with Rev. Rodney Alexander officiating. Burial followed in Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne.

The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Parkin.
