Mr. Oscar M. Conyears III, age 25, of Seattle, Wash., and formerly of Brinkley, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Haborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Conyears was born April 22, 1977, the son of Rev. Oscar and Gloria Conyears. He was a 1995 graduate of Brinkley High School.
Mr. Conyears is survived by both his parents of Brinkley; seven sisters, Froncell Jackson of Dallas, Texas, Tandra Conyears of Little Rock, Gabrielle Conyears of Brinkley, Tonijila Penn of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Tijuana Penn of Baltimore, Md., and Joy Timmons and Raquelle Timmons both of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Jonah Conyears and David Conyears both of Brinkley; grandparents, Y.C. Word and Eudora Word of Brinkley and Blanche Wilson of Marvell and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Conyears will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Mt. Olive M. B. Church in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Olive M. B. Church in Brinkley. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Cemetery. McNeal Funeral Home of Brinkley is in charge of all arrangements.
Mr. Charlie B. Shurn Jr., age 86, of Palestine died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in Kansas City, Mo..
Mr. Shurn, born Aug. 15, 1916 in Arkansas, was the son of Charlie B. Shurn and Lucinda Chism Shurn. He is survived by five sons, Olin Shurn of Kansas City, Mo., Charlie B. Shurn III and Raymond Shurn, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ray Dean Shurn of Ben Harbor, Mich., Ricky Shurn of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight daughters, Bernice Young of Colorado Springs, Colo. Lornice Adams and Alma Mulberry, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Bernetta Shurn of Milwaukee, Wisc., Phyllistine McDowell of Kalamazoo, Mich., Joyce Danzo of Arlington, Texas, Donetta Redd of Bakersfield, Calif., and Linda Faye Dunlap of Ben Harbor, Mich.; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Shurn will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at noon at Stanley Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mitchel Love officiating. Burial will follow in Stanley Grove Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
