Mrs. Mary E. Goff, age 69, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Goff was born Sept. 21, 1933, in Sumter, S.C., the daughter of George Washington Sutton and Bessie Dennis Sutton. She lived in Forrest City for most of her life, was a retired Forrest City Public School Crossing Guard and was a past employee of A&T. She was also a member and secretary of the Eastern Star and a member of Landmark Baptist Church where she had served as past secretary for over 20 years.
Mrs. Goff married James "Joe" Goff in 1954, and he survives her along with two sons, Mike Goff and Jeff Goff both of Forrest City; one daughter, Sherry Shepherd of Forrest City; two brothers, Muldrow Sutton of Sumter, S.C., and Russell Sutton of Greenville, S.C., and three grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Goff will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Landmark Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Jessie Guyton, age 90, of Forrest City, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Guyton, born Sept. 3, 1912, in Beck Spur was a retired custodian with the Forrest City School District. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Guyton of Forrest City, two daughters, Willie Lee Guyton of Markham, Ill., and Lillian Guyton of Little Rock; two sons, Jessie Guyton Jr. and Franklin D. Guyton, both of Chicago, Ill.; 37 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mr. Guyton will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Guyton will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone M.B. Church with Rev. Reco Guyton officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Wilbert James Haggins Sr., age 60, of Chicago, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in Forrest City.
Mr. Haggins, born May 11, 1942, in Forrest City, was the son of Henry Lee Haggins Sr. and Ardenia Henry Haggins. Mr. Haggins was preceded in death by his father in August of 1998 and is survived by his mother, along with his wife, Eliza Myles Haggins of Chicago, Ill.; seven daughters, Stephanie Jenkins of Long Beach, Calif., Olivia Myles, Deborah Haggins, Patricia Haggins, Natasha Haggins, Catherine Haggins and LaShawn Haggins, all of Chicago, Ill.; five sons, Wilbert James Haggins Jr., Patterson Haggins, Jerome Haggins, Anthony Haggins and Shun Haggins, all of Chicago, Ill.; six sisters, Betty Aldridge, Idella Haggins and Doris Witherspoon, all of Forrest City, Geneva Haggins of Los Angeles, Calif., Verna Harris of Warren and Eunice Leak of Newport; four brothers, Pat Haggins, Leotis Haggins, Henry Lee Haggins Jr., and Harold Haggins, all of Forrest City; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation services for Mr. Haggins will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Haggins will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Rising Sun M.B. Church with Rev. John Strong officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.
Mrs. Betty Clarie Carlisle Morledge, age 77, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Morledge was born June 19, 1925, in Hollywood, Calif., the daughter of Raoul Carlisle and Martha Louise Cargill Carlisle. She made her home in Forrest City for most of her life, was a housewife and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Mrs. Morledge was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood, the Garden Club, the Musical Coterie, the Episcopal Church Women and the Cotton Wives.
Mrs. Morledge married George B. Morledge Jr., in 1941 and he survives her along with one daughter, Kathy Morledge Meredith of Forrest City; five sons, Dr. George B. Morledge III and Michael H. Morledge both of Little Rock, W. Frank Morledge and Christopher W. Morledge both of Forrest City, and Craig C. Morledge of Jonesboro; one sister, Martha Carlisle Woody of Austin, Texas; one brother, Marshall N. Carlisle of Fayetteville; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morledge will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to the PEO Sisterhood, or to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Mrs. Dixie Mae Smith, age 65, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis.
Mrs. Smith, born July 21, 1937, in Parkin, was the daughter of James Smith and Lola Bell Smith. He is survived by a sister, Annie Bell Bradley of South Bend, Ind.; two sons, Albert Smith and Terry Smith, both of East St. Louis, Ill.; seven daughters, Annie Hunt, Bobbie Kelly, Linda Collins, Lola Johnson, Annette Smith and Mary Hunter, all of Forrest City and Renee Jefferson of East St. Louis, Ill.; 33 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Shady Grove M.B. Church in Blackfish with Rev. Chester Rolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Black Fish.
Ms. Joyce Stine Nixon, age 52, of Blytheville, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville.
Ms. Nixon was born Dec. 5, 1950, in Blytheville, the daughter of Eddie Nixon and Charlie Mae Shields. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Ridge M. B. Church.
Ms. Nixon is survived by five sisters, Joann Crawford, Ollie Darkie and Linda Rogers all of Chicago, Ill., Sandra Jackson of Burdette, and Lisa Reed of Blytheville, and five brothers, Eddie Lee Reed Jr., Terry James Shield and Elton Bernard Reed all of Chicago, Ill., and Fredrick Lee Reed and Thuworn Cortez Shield both of Blytheville.
Visitation services for Ms. Nixon will be held on Friday, Jan . 31, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home in Blytheville. Funeral services for Ms. Nixon will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home of Blytheville with Rev. Gilbert Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Blytheville.
Mrs. Allie Irene Stidham, age 84, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003.
Mrs. Stidham was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Nauvoo, Ala., the daughter of John Heflin and Ida Meeks Heflin. She made her home in Forrest City for most of her life, was a housewife and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
In 1937, Mrs. Stidham married Travis Stidham and he preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived by five daughters, Linnie Kimble of Colt, Betty Barkley of Palestine, Ann Vicks of Clarksville, Stella Blundell of Marion and Sylvia Cleaver of Forrest City; three sons, Travis Stidham of Wynne, and Troy Stidham and Edward Stidham both of Forrest City; one sister, Pauline Barabee, of Rosebud, Ga.; 40 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Kimble in 1996 and a son Ottis Stidham.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stidham were held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church. Burial followed in Forrest Park Cemetery.
