Mr. Norman Lee "Judy" Brown, age 65, of Zionsville, Ind. and formerly of Caldwell, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Brown was born April 19, 1937, in Caldwell, the son of Arch and Maude Deese Brown. He was a machinist, owner of Norm's Home Repair and former owner of the Sheridan Hotel in Zionsville, Ind.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Hinckley Brown; two daughters, Judy Ann Wothke of Zionsville, Ind., and Sandra Lee Brown of Sheridan, Ind.; two sons, William Joseph Brown of Westfield, Ind., and James Walter Brown of Zionsville, Ind.; six sisters, Pauline Smith and Barbara Hunter both of Indianapolis, Ind., Gloria Erickson of Duarte, Calif., O'Neil Najewski of Forrest City, Myra Jane Roberts of Jonesboro, and Glenda Parsons on New York, N.Y.; a brother, Donald V. Brown of Beebe; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Bierman and Mary Gilpin; and five brothers, Buster Brown, Archie Brown, O.J. Brown, Joe T. Brown and Buddy Brown.
Visitation for Mr. Brown will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuaries in Zionsville, Ind. and on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 from 12 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the mortuary following visitation on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at 2 p.m.. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Ind.
The family requests that memorials be made to the St. Vincent Hospice.
Mrs. Velva Ann Melton, age 93, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Melton was born April 9, 1909, in Hamilton, Ala., the daughter of John and Georgia Palmer Colvin. She was a housewife and a member of the Oak Hill Church of God.
Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her husband, Lige Melton in 1988; a daughter, Martha Kidwell in 1981; one son, Wayne Melton in 2002; two brothers, Earl and William Colvin; and five sisters, Lilly Leaptroat, Pearl Barber, Bertha Hightower, Borgia Snelson and Elzora Steele. She is survived by two sons, Robert and Rayburn Melton both of Forrest City; two daughters, Gladys Barber of Sullivan, Mo., and Mary Davenport of Forrest City; two brothers, Augustus and Lawrence Colvin both of Forrest City; 36 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Melton was held Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Chapel of Morgan Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Hill Church of God with Bro. William Witcher officiating and assisted by Bro. Chelch Reagan. Burial followed in Bell Cemetery in Palestine.
Mrs. Dixie Mae Smith, age 65, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis.
Mrs. Smith, born July 21, 1937, in Parkin, was the daughter of James Smith and Lola Bell Smith. He is survived by a sister, Annie Bell Bradley of South Bend, Ind.; two sons, Albert Smith and Terry Smith, both of East St. Louis, Ill.; seven daughters, Annie Hunt, Bobbie Kelly, Linda Collins, Lola Johnson, Annette Smith and Mary Hunter, all of Forrest City and Renee Jefferson of East St. Louis, Ill.; 33 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Shady Grove M.B. Church in Blackfish with Rev. Chester Rolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Black Fish.
