FCity summer football drills begin Aug. 4

The Forrest City Mustangs will begin two-a-day summer football drills on Monday, Aug, 4, according to Head Coach Donnie Willis.

"I believe that is the first day we can practice," Willis said. "That's what we are shooting for right now."

The Mustangs have been picked to finish fifth in the AAAAA-East Conference this season. Cabot is the prseason favorite to win the league.

Willis said that the Mustangs will practice in pads beginning Thursday, Aug. 7.

The team is scheduled to open the 2003 season on Friday, Sept. 5, when they host Wynne at Sam Smith Stadium.

Willis is beginning his fifth season as Mustang football caoch.

In other news, Forrest City Athletic Director Mike Bender said today that Ryan Wallace has been hired to replace departed Mustang assistant football coach Jeff Hudson, who resigned last month to take a similar position at Paragould.

Wallace has been a graduate assistant coach at Henderson State University the past two years.


PWHS schedules free athletic physicals

Palestine-Wheatley High School will give athletic physical examinations for all junior and senior high students who want to participate in any of the school's sports or cheerleading, on Thursday, July 31, from 8 until 10:30 a.m. The physicals are free and will be held at the high school.
