Cora King

Mrs. Cora King, age 86, of Marianna, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Parkside Towers Nursing Home in St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. King was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Marianna. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. King is survived by a son, Robert L. King of Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Dorothy Walter of Marianna, Arelean Branscumb of Chicago, Ill. and Maxine Ward of St. Louis, Mo., and many other realtives and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. King will be held on Friday, June 13, 2003,from 1 to 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Gillead M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Mariah Cemetery in Oak Forrest.


Murrel E. Maxwell

Mr. Murrel E. Maxwell, age 60, of Chicago, Ill., died Thursday, June 5, 2003 in Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Maxwell was born Sept. 23, 1942, in Forrest City, the son of Ben Maxwell and Muffie G. Maxwell. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his mother; a daughter, Linda Greer of Kansas City, Mo.; eight sisters, Lutrecia Tunson of St. Louis, Mo., Verlura Whitaker of Oakland, Calif., Fannie Hasking of New Orleans, La., Deborah Franklin of West Memphis, Beverly Walls and Oma Maxwell, both of Forrest City, Mary Woodes of Gary, Ind. and Irvy J. Sargent of Haynes; two brothers, Lee Maxwell and Ben Maxwell III both of Chicago, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Shirley Scott.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2003, at People's Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m.


Janie Cheatman Smith

Mrs. Janie Cheatman Smith, age 78, of Forrest City, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Smith, born Sept. 2, 1924, in Clarksdale, Miss., the daughter of Bundell Cheatman and Geneva Williams Cheatman. She is survived by one daughter, Edith Jo White of Forrest City; one son, James Smith of Lansing, Mich.; a sister, Bessie Mae Goff, of Madison; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Friday, June 13, 2003, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Church with burial following in Shady Grove Cemetery.
