Mary Pearl Engels

Ms. Mary Pearl Engels, age 91, of Nashville, Tenn., died Sunday, June 15, 2003.

Ms. Engels, born March 31, 1912, in Moorefield, was the daughter of Young Mack Engels and Nannie Lee Morgan Engels. She was a former resident of Forrest City, and was a graduate of Batesville High School and Arkansas College. She taught in the public school system for 34 years and belonged to a number of teacher's organizations including the Retired Teacher Association, the Arkansas and Tennessee Genealogical Societies, the Arkansas Pioneers and the Hudson Family South.

Ms. Engels is survived by a sister-in-law, Sarah Engels of Nashville; two nephews, one niece and a great-nephew.

Funeral services for Ms. Engels will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Moorefield Methodist Church with burial following at the Batesville Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


John Paul Jones

Mr. John Paul Jones, age 49, of Marianna, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Mr. Jones was born Sept. 18, 1953, in Marianna, the son of W.E. Jones Sr. and Annie L. Morris. He was a maintenance worker with Camaco and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Danita Davis Jones of Marianna; a son, John Paul "Jay" Jones II of Jonesboro; one daughter, Johnna Marie Jones of Claypool, Ind.; a sister, Joanne Jones Webb of Marianna; his mother, Annie L. McDonald of Marianna; two step-mothers, Mary Frances Jones King of West Helena and Terry Martinez of San Antonia, Texas; two brothers, Walter Earl "Butch" Jones Jr. of Marianna and Thomas Edward "Tom" Jones of Houston, Texas, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Graveside services will be held for Mr. Jones on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Moro with Bro. Reed Dillahunty officiating. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of Marianna is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests memorials be made to the Friendship Baptist Church.
