Mr. Stephen Larry "Steve" Pankey Jr., age 43, of Newport, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, in Little Rock.
Mr. Pankey, born July 18, 1959, in Forrest City, was the son of Stephen Larry Pankey Sr. and Sandra Pearcy Pankey. Mr. Pankey was a 1977 graduate of Newport High School and was a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He worked as a substitute teacher in the Newport School District and was a longtime member of both the Miss Newport and Miss Three Rivers pageant committees, and was also a volunteer with Port Fest. Mr. Pankey was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newport.
Mr. Pankey who was preceded in death in 1997 by his father, is survived by his mother; one sister, Donna Pankey Campbell; and two nieces and a nephew.
Visitation services for Mr. Pankey will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Jackson Funeral Home in Newport. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newport with Kaneaster Hodges Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Aurora Alvarado Romero, age 80, of Forrest City, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Romero was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Pleasanton, Texas, the daughter of Raymond Romero and Matiana Alvarado Romero. She lived in Forrest City for most of her life, was a housewife and a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Mrs. Romero is survived by two sons, Raymond Tigerina of Marion and Tony Revas of Forrest City; a daughter, Rosie Soto of Marion; a brother, Fracisco Romero of Widener; a sister, Juanita Lopez of California; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and several other family and friends. A son, Daniel Romero, preceded her in death in 1950.
Visitation for Mrs. Romero will be held on Thursday, June 26,
2003, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home.
A prayer service will follow visitation. Funeral services will
be held on Friday, June 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis
of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Forrest Park
Cemetery.
Mr. Donald Eugene "Don" Wood, age 59, of Parkin, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Wood was born on July 2, 1943, in Wynne, the son of Roy and Helen Doss Wood. He was a propane truck driver for the farmers co-op in Parkin for 15 years, a farmer and a police officer in Parkin. He was also a member of the Togo Baptist Church.
Mr. Wood married Annie Sue Voyles Wood in 1963, and she survives him along with both his parents; a son, Charlie Wood of Jonesboro; two sisters, Deborah Kay Bassham of Hardy and Juliene Busby of Forrest City; and one grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Wood were held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. graveside in Parkin Cemetery with Dr. Fred Spann officiating. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis or to the Cross County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
