William Travis Beck

Mr. William Travis Beck, age 65, of Proctor, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Beck, a self-employed mechanist, was a member of Horseshoe Lake Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association and the Reserve Department CCSO. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Ruth Beck of Proctor; three daughters, Ruthie Layne Sexton and Laurie Kay Follis, both of Proctor and Aleitha Lorraine Gray of Fort Mill, S.C.; two sisters, Iva Lambert of Madera, Calif., and Lorene Joyce of Osceola; one brother, Johnny Beck of Parkin; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mr. Beck will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Horseshoe Lake Baptist Church with burial following in Gibson Bayou.

The family requests memorials be made to the Horseshoe Lake Baptist Church building fund.


Maude Leech Parkman

Mrs. Maude Leech Parkman, age 60, of Benton, died Monday, June 2, 2003 in Benton.

Mrs. Parkman, born Aug. 1, 1942, in Benton, the daughter of Dick and Mattie Leech. Mrs. Leech worked with Pulaski County courts beginning in 1964 and also worked in the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney's office. She also worked with the state Attorney General's Office and worked for Supreme Court Justice John I. Purtle along with several other judges. Mrs. Parkman also did free lance reporting and was executive secretary for the Board of Certified Court Reporter Examiners for several years.

Mrs. Parkman is survived by three sisters, her twin, Mattie Goodrich, of Benton, Betty Lou Oetken also of Benton and Mary Claire Narramore of Richardson, Texas; two brothers, Gene Leech of Bryant and Dick Leech III of Little Rock, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Forrest Parkman.

Visitation services for Mrs. Parkman will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Chapel of Ashby Funeral Home in Benton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. in Ashby Chapel with Bro. Ken Barnard officiating. Burial will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery in Benton.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County, at 14600 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, Ar. 72210.


Brenda Akins Warren Temple

Mrs. Brenda Akins Warren Temple, age 59, of Little Rock, died on Monday, June 2, 2003.

Mrs. Temple, born May 5, 1944, in Wynne, was the daughter of Oliver Ray and Mildred Miller Akins. She was a Forrest City School District first grade teacher from 1967 to 1979 and taught at Sylvan Hills Elementary from 1979 to 1997.

Mrs. Temple is survived by her husband, Dale Temple; two daughters, Rae Akins Warren Millerd of Marion and Kelly Archer Warren Chandler of Sherwood; two sisters, Olivia Akins Bokker of Forrest City and Susan Akins Vest of Wynne; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mrs. Temple will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi, in Little Rock with the Rev. Pamela S. Morgan officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. at Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne with Mr. Odell McCallum presiding.

The family requests memorials be made to Baptist Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, AR, 72210 or to the American Cancer Society, 901, N. University Ave., Little Rock, AR, 72203.
