Bern R. Smith

Mr. Bern R. Smith, age 88, of Forrest City, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Smith was born November 16, 1914, in Covington, Tenn. and was the son of Walter Smith and Audrey Roby Smith. He lived in Forrest City for most of his life, was an employee of Western Auto for 26 years and the owner of Smith Flower Shop for 14 years. He was a Mason and was also a veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Smith married Dora Lee Sampley in 1952, and she survives him along with two sons, Richard Wayne Smith of Muskegon, Mich., and Vance Roby Smith of Forrest City; two brothers, Odell Smith and Fontaine Smith both of Covington, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mr. Smith will held on Thursday, June 5, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery.


Jeane Cathryn Smith

Mrs. Jeane Cathryn Smith, age 73, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003.

Mrs. Smith, who was a Methodist, was born July 31, 1929, in Drew, Miss., the daughter of James L. Gilbert and Lillian York Gilbert.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Maureen Peterson; one brother, Ed Gilbert; one grandson; one great-grandson and several relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003, at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock with Rev. Jackie Farmer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72203. Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home.


Delois Golatt Ward

Mrs. Delois Golatt Ward, age 51, of Forrest City, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Ward was born Sept. 17, 1951, in Hughes, the daughter of Will and Eva Mae Golatt. She was a former employee of Wal-Mart in Forrest City and a member of the Williams Temple Church of God in Christ.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband, Denona Ward Sr.; two daughters, Lasandra Bean and Anita Ward both of Forrest City; two sons, Denona Ward Jr. and Michael Ward both of Forrest City; five sisters, Alma Ree Burgess, Jewell Fields, Juanita Rogers, Doris Burgess and Anitshenette McNutt, all of Forrest City; seven brothers, Jessie Golatt of Maryland, Beldon Golatt and Leroy Golatt, both of Forrest City, Henry Golatt of Pine Bluff, Robert Golatt of Little Rock and Johnell Golatt of California, and 10 grandchildren. A brother, Will Golatt, preceded her in death.

Visitation services for Mrs. Ward will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2003, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cornerstone M.B. Church in Madison. Funeral services will be held at the church following visitation at 12 p.m. with Rev. Theodis Cochran Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens in Edmondson. Anthony Funeral Home Inc. of West Memphis is in charge of all arrangements.
