Dr. Schwartz scored five times in the top of the first inning and held off True Value's last-inning rally to take a 5-4 win in girls' 10-under slow-pitch softball Tuesday night.
True Value cut Schwartz's lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and then scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning before leaving the potential tying run on base when the game-ending out was made.
Dr. Schwartz improves to 7-2 in the American Division of the league and kept pace with Food Giant, the division leader, who defeated Southern Furniture 12-2 Tuesday to move to 8-1.
Katie Barnes, Nikki Derrick, Sharonda Hurst, Brittney Tracy and Samantha Casey each scored single runs from Dr. Schwartz in the first inning using one walk and five consecutive singles.
True Value, 3-5 for the year, got two runs from Breyunna Boyd and single runs from Molly Howard and Holly Richards.
Howard hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first after Boyd doubled to lead off the inning.
Southern Furniture took an early 2-0 lead but Food Giant scored the next 12 runs in their 12-2 win.
KeKe King led the way with three runs while Deidra White added two runs. Aminnica Gardner, Raven Harrell, Ariel Norment, LaQuita Harris and Ariana McCoy each scored single runs.
Food Giant plated five runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third to post the win.
Southern Furniture, 3-6, got single runs from Haley Wilson and Brandi Morgan.
Walker Insurance improved to 7-2 for the year with a 15-3 win over Pizza Inn Tuesday.
Walker remains in second place in the National Division side of the league standings, behind first-place Stevens, a 12-7 winner over Forrest City Bank.
Kelsey Morris scored three times to lead Walker while Mary Burks, TeJarra McClinic, Lakeria Lucas, Jasmine Rucker and Caitlyn Norwood added two runs each. Heaven Jackson and Shanice Rice scored single runs.
Armeshia Chism, Melanie Haynie and Tamara Mays scored single runs for Pizza Inn.
Stevens moved to 8-1 for the year using three runs from Mollie Laws and two runs each from Caroline Nimocks, Kaitlyn Peterson and Kelsey Ferguson in the win over Forrest City Bank.
Stevens opened a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and pushed that to 8-0 with three runs in the second before Forrest City Bank plated five runs in the bottom of the second to get within 8-5.
Each team scored single runs in the third as Stevens led 9-6 before Stevens pushed four runs across the plate in the top of the sixth to put the game away.
Taylor Billingsley, Breyunna Williams and Kayla Burns added single runs for Stevens.
Forrest City Bank got single runs from Logan Duch, Kaylin Roberts, Chasity Carruth, Jessie Stultz, Alexus Clardy, Veronica Gasaway and Callie Robichaud.
Title Company won for the second straight time Tuesday, holding off Sanyo 4-2.
Title Company got single runs from Tecoria Jones, Lori Ratton, Semiko Grady and Meghan Clark while Brea Metcalf and Courtney Hodges scored single runs for Sanyo.
The 12-under and 16-under girls' fast pitch leagues are scheduled to play Thursday night.
Food Giant scored twice in the seventh inning to escape with a 10-9 win over Easley Law Firm Tuesday night in Minor League (pitching machine) action.
In a see-saw game, Food Giant led 3-2 after one inning but trailed 5-4 going into the third before Easley pushed their lead to 7-4 in the top half of the inning. Food Giant got a single run in the home portion of the third to trail 7-5. A single run in the top of the fifth left Easley in front 8-5 before Food Giant plated a run to stay within striking distance at 8-6.
Two Food Giant runs in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 8-8 before Easley regained a 9-8 cushion with a single run in the top of the seventh. Food Giant won it in the bottom half of the inning.
Cameron Smith and Tavian Banks led Easley by scoring twice while Alex Lindsey, Seth Parker, Weston Hess and Dalton Quinn added single runs.
Makeil Mattison and Cameron Weeks led Food Giant with three runs while Jake Nosler, scored twice and Devante Hurst and Malik Avant scored single runs.
The win moves Food Giant to 5-2 for the year and into second place behind unbeaten T&J Properties.
JB Sports improved to 5-3 for the year after being awarded a forfeit win over Giffin's Grins Tuesday.
Cochran Auto and Joey's Muffler posted victories Tuesday in the Bambino 9-10 League and remain locked in tie for second place behind unbeaten Mr. T Auto.
Cochran downed Arkansas Electric 13-6 while Joey's defeated National Carpet One 8-4.
Both Cochran and Joey's improve to 5-2 for the year.
Marcus Scott, Ladarius Townsend and Brandyn Granberry scored twice to lead Cochran while Daniel Perry and Deonte Hurst added single runs. Jordan Chatters and Jacob Tittle led Arkansas Electric with two runs each while Forrest Stanley and Michael Ludwig scored single runs.
Joey's got runs from Corey Robichaud, Lloyd Hamilton, Kerrie Barden, Demond Watson, Marlon McShan and Dusty Smith.
Jerrod Brown scored twice for National Carpet while James Pendergrass and Hunter McLean scored single runs.
Derrick CPA stayed in third at 4-3 after putting away Sanyo 11-5.
