Mr. Benjamin Wayne Cavins, age 74, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in West Memphis.
Mr. Cavins was a retired Arkansas State Police Sergeant serving 30 years, a member of the Woodman of the World for 50 years, the Arkansas State Police Retired Officers Association and the Widener Baptist Church.
Mr. Cavins is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cavins of Forrest City. He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Timms and one granddaughter.
Graveside services were held on Friday, March 7, 2003, at 11 a.m., at Jonesboro Memorial Park with Bro. Harold Ray officiating. Langford's Funeral Service of Jonesboro was in charge of all arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Widener Baptist Church.
Mrs. Annie Marie Huckaba, age 92, of Palestine, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Huckaba, born September 16, 1910, in Carroll County Mississippi, the daughter of Oscar Rayford Matthews and Ella Leona Dunn Mathews. She was a member of the Walls Chapel Baptist Church and was a housewife.
In 1928 Mrs. Huckaba married Floyd Huckaba and he preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by one son, Wayne Huckaba of Forrest City; five daughters, Velma Clay of Memphis, Venia Waddill of Olive Branch, Ruth Devasier of Memphis, Florine Turnage of Southaven and Wanda Fisher of Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 7, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Minton officiating. Burial followed in Bell Cemetery.
Mr. James "Red" Lewis, age 75, of Palestine, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Lewis was born March 21, 1927, in Sedgwick, the son of Tal McQual and Ida Mae McQual. He lived in Palestine all of his life, was a heavy equipment operator and a Baptist.
Mr. Lewis married Nora Russell in 1950, and she survives him along with three sons, Dale Lewis and Lloyd Lewis both of Palestine, and David Lewis of Florida; six daughters, Christina Mae Caskey, Tabitha Lewis and Karen Lewis all of Palestine, Denise Parker of Hunter, Lila Marie Lewis of Newport, and Deborah Lewis of Minnesota; one brother, Tal Lewis of Portia; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Lewis will be held on Friday, March 7, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Whittaker Cemetery in Hoxie.
