Mr. Otis Gene Boggs, age 64, of Somerville, Tenn., died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis.
Mr. Boggs was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Memphis, the son of Otis Glenn Boggs and Norma Jean Ozment Boggs. He worked for the Untied States Post Office in Germantown, Tenn. as a supervisor and letter carrier before retiring in 1995. Mr. Boggs was a Mason, a Shriner, a worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Scottish Rite, York Rites, and member of Al Chymia Temple. He was also a charter member of the Hickory First Baptist Church and served as its first treasurer. He was a veteran of both the United States Navy and Marines.
Mr. Boggs is survived by his wife, Susannah Pace Boggs of Somerville, Tenn., and formerly of Cross County; two sons, Brandon Young Boggs of Somerville, Tenn. and Ned Glenn Boggs of Eads, Tenn.; his step-mother, Mamie Boggs of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sisters, Glenda Chandler of Memphis and Linda Neeley of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Mr. Boggs were held on Thursday, May 1, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Hickory First Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Little officiating. Burial followed in Fayette County Memorial Park in Somerville, Tenn. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Florine Glasper, age 84, of Forrest City, died Thursday, April 24, 2003. She was born, Jan. 25, 1919, in Forrest City, the daughter of Coleman Green and Julia D. Griggs.
Mrs. Glasper is survived by her husband of 70 years, Troy E. Glasper Sr. of the home; two sons, MacArthur Glasper of Benton Harbor, Mich. and Troy E. Glasper Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Bernice Glasper, Georgia Henton and Linda Jones all of Forrest City; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation services for Mrs. Glasper will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2003, from 12 to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Peoples Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Church of God in Christ on Division Street. Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Colt.
Mr. Eliax Jenkins Sr., age 78, of Forrest City, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Jenkins was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Trenton, the son of Charles Jenkins and Jimmie Jones Jenkins. He is survived by five daughters, Everlean Jenkins, Roberta Bank and Rosie Lee Morris, all of Brinkley, and Juanita Hall and Dyerianne Hall, both of Stockton, Calif.; four sons, Eliax Jenkins Jr., Allen Jenkins, Henry Hall, all of Forrest City, and Theo James of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Willean Jones of Chicago, Ill., and 30 grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Jenkins will held on Friday, May 2, 2003, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Riverside M.B. Church with Rev. Marland Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery.
Ms. Elsie Winters McKissick, age 87, of Little Rock, Arkansas,
died Wednesday, April 23, 2003.
Ms. McKissick was born January 13, 1916, in Jericho, Arkansas
and was a retired nursing assistant. She is survived by one son,
George Alfred Winters, Jr., of Forrest City; four daughters, Willie
Jean Dukes and Lillie Mae Winters, both of Chicago, Illinois;
Verlow Ann Winters and Gladys J. Wheeler, both of Little Rock,
Arkansas; two sisters, Dorethia "Dot" Anderson of St.
Louis, Missouri and Plummie Willis of Chicago, Illinois.
Visitation services for Ms. Winters will be held on Friday, May 2, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Goodwin Church of God in Christ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Goodwin Church of God in Christ with Elder A.D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City at the Casteel Cemetery.
