Bessie Dean

Mrs. Bessie Dean, aged 94, of 103 Brinkley, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at her daughter's home.

She was born May 3, 1909, in Marvell, and worked as a domestic.

She is survived by three daughters, Lizzie Mobbley, Addie Cline and Lucendria Glass, all of Brinkley; a sister, Onie Brokenbrough of Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, four great-great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great-great grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mrs. Dean will be held at Clay Funeral home, Friday, May 16, 2003, from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003 at First Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Ricky Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Haven Rest Cemetery in Brinkley.


Robert Granberry III

Mr. Robert Granberry III, aged 64, of Forrest City, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.

He was born June 25, 1938, in Haynes, the son of Robert Granberry II and Leola Washington. He was a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Anthony Granberry of Milwaukee, Wis., Robert Granberry IV of Dallas, Texas and Rodney Grandberry of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Lequita White of Crow Creek, and Felicia LaShay Hawkins; three sisters, Gloria Granberry and Eva Wilson of Haynes and Lola James of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers, Allen Granberry and Donald Granberry, both of St. Louis and Fred Granberry of Bellville, Ill.; eight grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Funeral services for Mr. Granberry were held Monday, May 12, 2003, at the Spring Grove M.B. Church at Haynes. Burial followed in Clayhill Cemetery, under the direction of People's Funeral Home.


Sayble Milam Murphy

Mrs. Syble Milam Murphy, aged 84, of Cordova, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Appling Wood Health Care Center in Cordova.

Mrs. Murphy was a retired seamstress for a textile company and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hughes.

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Murphy. She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Watts of Eads, Tenn, Linda M. True of Bartlett, Tenn. and Jean Yvonne Hare of Paragould; a son, Robert Wayne Murphy of Brighton, Colo.; two sisters, Ethel Daniel of Panama City, Fla. and Opal Ames of Carson, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Murphy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Roller Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. The family asks that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund of Hughes.


Alvia Thompson

Mrs. Alvia Thompson, aged 94, of Forrest City, died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Crestpark Retirement Inn.

She was born Jan. 9, 1909 in Tennessee, and was a retired school district cook.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by a son, Milton Thompson of Forrest City; a daughter, Ruby Payne of Louisville, Ky.; two children and four great grandchildren.

Visitation services for Mrs. Thompsn will be held at Clay Funeral Home on Friday, May 16, 2003, from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Riverside Baptist Church on Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Marland Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery.


Mable Franklin Wymes

Mrs. Mable Franklin Wymes, aged 73, of Forrest City, died Monday, May 12, 2003 at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.

She was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Aberdeen, Miss., the daughter of John Franklin Sr. and Laura Ware Franklin. Mrs. Wymes was a member of Mt. Calvary M.B. Church.

Mrs. Wymes is survived by her husband, Rev. John W. Wymes Sr.; four daughters, Gloria Barton of Palestine, Clara Barton of Forrest City, Marie Moore of Little Rock and Nazrene Grace of Forrest City; two sons, John W. Wymes Jr. of Forrest City and James Wymes of Little Rock; four sisters, Vernice Williams, Shirley Butler, Melody Duff, all of Forrest City and Helen Hull of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, John Franklin Jr. of New York and Jack Franklin of Forrest City; 20 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with Rev. Napolian Grace officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery. Woodhouse Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
