Taylor Glass shatters Union's perfect season

Tyrice Bradley held Union Planter's Bank to one run on two hits Monday which gave Taylor Glass a 6-1 win in Junior Babe Ruth league action.

The loss was the first of the season for Union which slips to 4-1 while Taylor Glass moves into a three-way tie for second with Cochran Auto and Freeman. All three teams are 3-2.

Union scored in the bottom of the first inning and then gave up seven unanswered runs to Taylor Glass.

Taylor plated two runs in the third to lead 2-1 and made it 3-1 in the fourth. Taylor closed out the victory with three runs in the fifth.

Bradley, Torey Rogers, Donnie Willis Jr., Maurice Bradley and Nico Cohn each scored single runs for Taylor.

Rotary Club got runs from Nakieer Barton, Justin Nosler, Justin Gadberry and Charles Cooley which helped the team to their first win of the year, a 6-1 victory over Twillies Tigers.

Rotary scored four times in the bottom of the second inning, using three walks and two errors.

Kiel Smith scored the Tigers' lone run.

In the third and final Junior Babe Ruth game, Cochran Auto rolled up Freeman 13-7 as Leonard Banks and Justin Cochran combined for the pitching duties.

Banks and Michael Holland each scored three times for Cochran while Torre Hunter added two runs and Brandon davis, Justin Ross and Kenny Norman scored single runs.

Arthur Jones scored twice to lead Freeman while Darry Banks, Kenny Grady and Doug Miller added single runs.

*Hill's Delta Concrete came up just short against unbeaten JB Sports Monday, losing 6-5 in Minor league (pitching machine) action.

Hill's led 5-3 after two innings but JB Sports rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third to to tie the game at 5-5 and won it with a single run in the fourth when Carlos Rogers scored on a hit by Dennis Scott.

Scott scored twice to lead JB Sports while Hill's got single runs from Joseph Tripp, Draylon Willis, Jared Haynie, C.J. Strong and Adam Hoy.

The Forrest City Lions Club won for the first time this season, putting away Easley Law Firm 14-5.

Eight of the Lions 12 roster players scored at least one run while Alex Martin, Jalen Ford, Xavier Williams and Ethan Mathes scored twice.

*Wholesale Metal improved to 4-1 for the year Monday with an 8-1 win over Rideout Lumber in Bambino 11-12 League play.

Josh Taylor, Chandler Sorrells and Shaquille Brown scored two runs each to pace the winners.

Lloyd Barber scored the lone run for Rideout.

Taco Bell scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the finishing touches on a 9-6 win over H&H Monday night.

Taco Bell improves to 3-2 for the year while H&H slips to 1-4.

Results from the Lucas Trucking, Pearson Insurance game and the Vaccaro, Houser game were not available at press time.

*In adult men's softball action Monday, Barnes Timber and Gym 2000 remained unbeaten and tied for the league lead as both posted victories.

Gym 2000 put away M&T Paving 20-2 while Barnes got past Poison 13-3.

Both teams are 4-0 for the year.

The Bulldogs had an easy time against Food Giant, winning 23-12 and Morgan slapped Boar's Head 24-11.


Run limit helps Airtherm stay unbeaten in 12-under

Airtherm scored their five-run limit in the first and fourth innings Monday which was good enough for a 10-5 win over Children's Clinic in 12-under girls' fast pitch softball.

Erin Marlowe and Chelsie Gillespie each scored twice for Airtherm, now 5-0 for the year.

Eight of Airtherm's 10 players scored at least once.

Children's Clinic slips to 3-2 for the year and into a tie for second with Food Giant, A 13-7 winner over Giffin's Grins on Monday.

Children's plated four runs in the fourth inning. Megan Meridith scored two times to lead the team.

Crowley's pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a come-from-behind 17-16 win over Dr. Beasley.

The Beasley team led 16-13 going into the bottom of the fifth.

Crowley's improves to 2-3 for the year while Dr. Beasley drops to 2-3.

Crowley's got four runs from Jasmine Williams and three runs each from Maggie Howard, Sharicka Jones and Robyn Turner.

Megan White scored three times to lead Dr. beasley while Cassie Holloway, Tanesha Parchman, Shanneka Barber and Sydney Mitchell all scored two runs.

Brittney Johnson and Jasmine Jones combined to score six of Food Giant's 13 runs in a 13-7 win over Giffin's.

Food Giant plated five runs in the third inning.

*In the girls' 16-under fast pitch league, Sanyo stayed unbeaten Monday with a 19-12 win over Dr. St. John.

Sanyo led 10-2 after two innings before St. John put together a five-run third and a five-run fourth inning to cut into Sanyo's lead.

Risondra Deans and Sequoria Grady led Sanyo by scoring three runs each.

LaShanda Barton, Chari Agnew, Rachel Sims and Jazzalyn Rodgers all crossed home plate twice.

St. John got two runs from Elizabeth Smith and Christina Faulk.

In other 16-under action, Bonanza ran their season record to 3-1 with a 9-1 win over Times-Herald.

Rudy Stuart scored the only run for Times-Herald. Leigh Anna Taylor and Katie McNair led Bonanza by scoring two runs each.

After not playing at all last week, the 10-under girls' slow pitch league will try to resume its schedule tonight beginning at 7 p.m.


Lady Lions take AAAAA state golf title

CABOT -- Amanda Lowery fired a low-round 78 to lead Searcy to the Class AAAAA state golf championship Monday over a close field at Greystone Country Club.

The Lady Lions shot a total of 176 to finish first, five strokes ahead of Van Buren, which carded a 181.

Fort Smith Southside finished third (184) followed by Jonesboro with a 186.

Cabot's Chelsea Stryon shot an 84 for the second-best individual score. Jeni Andrasik of Russellville shot an 85 while Stephanie Zachery of Conway and Lauren Bevill of El Dorado each carded an 86.

Russellville and Cabot tied for fifth in the tournament with a 187, followed by Camden Fairview (191), Mt. St. Mary's (198), Conway (205), Benton (215) and El Dorado (221).

P-W football tonight

The Palestine-Wheatley Patriot football team will hold its annual Spring intersquad scrimmage tonight beginning at 8 p.m., at Patriot Field.

Admission will be a donation to the football program.
