Giffin's Grins gets first win

JBSports takes early league lead in Minors

Giffin's Grins got their first win of the Minor league (pitching machine) season Thursday night, holding off Easley Law Firm, 12-8.

Giffin's put up five runs in the first inning and added five more in the third inning to secure the victory.

Tajuan Whitby, Demario Kirkland and Anthony Jenkins each scored twice to lead Giffin's.

Easley got two runs each from Cameron Smith and Weston Hess.

Giffin's evens their record at 1-1 for the year while Easley falls to 0-2.

In Thursday's early game, JB Sports improved to 2-0 for the year by taking a 13-6 win over Food Giant.

JB Sports got three runs from Cody Talley and two runs each from Spencer Morgan, Dennis Scott, Andre Hancock and Philandus Watson.

Colton Hodges led Food Giant by scoring twice.

In Bambino League (11-12) Pearson Insurance and Lucas Trucking continued on their path as league co-leaders as both teams posted victories Thursday.

Pearson ran wild in a 15-2 win over H&H while Lucas held off Vaccaro Lumber 7-5.

Pearson got three runs from Quintarius Powell and two runs each from Mark Machen, Chance Pearson, KeMario Tucker and Terrance Bean.

H&H put up both runs in the bottom of the third innng when Demario McNutt and Chris Hunter both scored.

Lucas scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning and then held Vaccaro in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-5 win.

John Jones and Jerome McDaniel led Lucas Trucking by scoring two runs each.

Also on Thursday, Ridout scored six times in the top of the first inning to help put away Houser 13-3 while Wholesale Electric had an easy time against Taco Bell, winning 9-2.

In Bambino 9-10 League games from last week, Arkansas Electric defeated Giffin's Grins 8-6 and Derrick CPA held off National Carpet One 13-8.

The 9-10-year-olds are scheduled to play tonight.

In Junior Babe Ruth action, Union Planter's Bank moved to 2-0 for the year but had to hold off Freeman 7-6 Thursday night.

Freeman and Planter's were tied at 6-6 after six innings. Freeman failed to score in the top of the seventh which set the table for Planter's who scored the game-winning run in the home portion of the inning when Larry Bean singled and scored. Bean led Planter's by scoring three of the team's seven runs.

Cochran got three runs from Michael Holland and improved to 1-1 for the year with a 14-6 win over Rotary Club Thursday.

And finally, Taylor Glass held off Twillie's Tigers 5-4 in the final JBabe Ruth game. Taylor led 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Tigers plated two runs in the bottom of the inning and then added two more in the bottom of the sixth before the game-ending out was made.


Bonanza splits DH to open 16-U year

Bonanza split a pair of games in the 16-under fast pitch softball league Thursday night.

It was the first action of the season for Bonanza, who did not open the year as scheduled last week due to scheduling conflicts with some of the team's players.

In the first game, Bonanza suffered 6-5 loss against Sanyo but rebounded to take an 11-2 win over Times-Herald in the nightcap.

Also Thursday night, Dr. St. John rolled to a big 17-6 win over Clay Funeral Home, who like Bonanza, was playing for the first time this season.

St. John plated seven runs in the first to grab the early lead.

In 12-under fast pitch softball, Airtherm and Dr. Beasley remained tied for the league's top spot.

Airtherm defeated 15-10 and Dr. Beasley edged Giffin's 16-15.

Dr. Beasley led 12-10 going into the top of the fourth inning. Giffin's scored five times in the inning to lead 15-12.

Dr. Beasley plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to record the win.

Airtherm led Crowley's 10-3 early and then finished off their win by plating five more runs in the third inning.

Children's Clinic scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 13-12 come-from-behind win over Food Giant.

Food Giant led 7-6 after two innings and 12-9 after three innings.


M&T Paving, Gym 2000 unbeaten

M&T Paving and Gym 2000 have the early lead in the adult men's softball league,

M&T defeated Morgan 21-10 Thursday while Gym 2000 rolled past Kerby's 16-9. Both teams stand at 2-0 for the year.

On other games Thursday, Barnes Timber put away the Bulldogs 15-10. Food Giant knocked off Poison, formerly Sanyo, 7-5.
