Evelyn A. Griham-Nicks

Mrs. Evelyn A. Griham-Nicks, age 55, of Madison, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in Forrest City.

Mrs. Griham-Nicks was born Feb. 14, 1948, the daughter of Charlie Griham and Lorene "Flossy" Price-Griham. She was a member of the St. John Baptist Church in Madison.

Mrs. Griham-Nicks is survived by her three daughters, Chandra Griham of Oklahoma, Kimberly Moore of Largo, Md. and Lesley Phillips of Madison; 17 step children; six sisters, Linda Hicks, Mary Hall, Joyce Alexander, Donna Johnson, Minister Diane Edwards and Sharon Griham; three brothers, Billy Griham, Minister Harold Griham and Lydell Griham; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James A. Nicks; her mother; and a brother Charles Griham Jr.

Visitation for Mrs. Griham-Nicks will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the St. John Baptist Church in Madison. Funeral services will follow at the church on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. The Robinson Mortuary in North Little Rock is in charge of all arrangements.


Virgie Shepherd

Mrs. Virgie Shepherd, age 99, of Heber Springs and formerly of Forrest City, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Central Hospital in Searcy.

Mrs. Shepherd was born April 2, 1904, at Fitzgerald Crossing in Cross County, the daughter of William Christopher Tims and Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Melton Tims. She lived in St. Francis County for over 80 years, was a housewife, member of the Southern Baptist Organization and a member of the Beck Spur Baptist Church.

Mrs. Shepherd married Preston Shepherd in 1921 and he preceded her in death in 1962. She is survived by four sons, Oliver L. Shepherd of Elkhard, Ind., James Preston Shepherd of Doolittle, Mo., Billy Lee Shepherd of Jerome, Mo., and Troy Lewis Shepherd of Searcy; three daughters, Florence E. Elliott of Forrest City, Helen I. Dees of Searcy and Linda G. Carr of Heber Springs; 32 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Shepherd will be held on Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Harris Chapel Cemetery in Wynne.
