Mr. James A. "Jim" Luker, age 82, of Palestine, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Luker was born April 24, 1921, in St. Francis County, the son of John W. Luker and Velma Lee Taylor Luker. He retired from the Eaton Corporation in 1988, was a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Barrow Hill Gospel Church.
Mr. Luker married Martha Isabelle Brewer in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1973. He married Bertha Summerville in 2003 and she survives him along with two sons, Jimmy Luker of Forrest City and Alvin Luker of Palestine; a daughter, Diane Reed of Palestine; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Luker, in 1984.
Visitation for Mr. Luker will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Floyd "Chuck" Williams Sr., age 81, of Forrest City, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Williams was born Feb. 10, 1922, the son of George and Rosie Williams. He was a member of Taylor's Chapel CME Church where he served on the usher board.
Mr. Williams married Maxine Smith in 1947, and she survives him along with three sons, Floyd Williams of Brinkley, Charles Williams of Forrest City, Leonard Williams of Hot Springs; a daughter, Cassie Lewis of Forrest City; one brother, Leroy Williams of Forrest City; two sisters, Lola Johnson and Ruby Jones both of St. Louis, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Family hour for Mr. Williams will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Taylor's Chapel CME Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Taylor's Chapel CME Church. Mr. Williams will lie in state from 9 to 11 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery. The McNeal Funeral Home in Brinkley is in charge of all arrangements.
