Hassie Lorene Gray Baker

Mrs. Hassie Lorene Gray Baker, age 76, of Royse City, Texas, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Baker, born July 27, 1927, in Colt, was the daughter of Jim Gray and Marie Austin Gray. She lived in North Little Rock until moving to Texas in February and was a retired restaurant owner and a member of West Side Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Baker is survived by two sons, Orie Wilson Jr. and Terry Clary, both of North Little Rock; one daughter, Sharilyn Zupan of Royse City, Texas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Baker will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with burial following in Hughes Cemetery.


Henry Nash Baker

Mr. Henry Nash Baker, age 90, of Rockledge, Fla., and formerly of Memphis and Forrest City, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Baker was born April 8, 1913, in Bowen, Ill., the son of Samuel A. Baker and Ethel Nash Baker. He was the owner of Baker Reality Properties in Brevard County, Fla. He was retired from International Harvester after 34 years, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Mr. Baker was a former member of the Jaycees, Colonial Country Club and the Memphis Yacht Club. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Baker married Betty Galloway Baker and she survives him along with two sons, Henry Nash Baker Jr. of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Floyd P. Gibbons of Hot Springs; a daughter, Gail Gibbons Jordan of Findley, Ohio; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.


Hosea Burggs

Mr. Hosea Burggs, age 69, of Widener, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.

Mr. Burggs, born May 5, 1934, in Round Pound, was a farmer and the son of Anderson Burggs and Bessie King Burggs. He is survived by his wife, Vera Hudson Burggs of Widener, three daughters, Regina Williams, Jacqueline Burggs and Crystal Burggs, all of Forrest City; seven sons, Larry Hudson of Little Rock, Anderson Burggs and Rodney Burggs, both of Widener, Terrance Burggs of Madison, Jerry Burggs and Keith Burggs, both of Forrest City, Curtis Burggs of Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Mary Lanis and Fannie Wesson of Rochester, N.Y., Nancy Hudson of East St. Louis, Mo., Bessie McKinney of Chicago, Ill.; five brothers, Amos Burggs of Round Pond, Charles Burggs of East St. Louis, Mo., Joe Lee Burggs and Samuel Burggs, both of St. Louis, Mo., and Huntley Burggs of Little Rock; 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Burggs will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, from noon to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at noon at Riverside M.B. Church with Rev. Mark Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Scott Bond Cemetery in Madison.


Albert Finley Cranor

Mr. Albert Finley Cranor, age 89, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at St. Edwards Hospital in Fort Smith.

Mr. Cranor was born April 21, 1914, in Forrest City. He lived and farmed in St. Francis County until his retirement in 1978 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forrest City.

Mr. Cranor is survived by two daughters, Ann Cranor Hargraves of England and Martha Cranor Frueh of Fort Smith; two sisters, Mary Curtis of Marianna and Virginia Higgins of Richardson, Texas; a brother, Howard Cranor of England; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Spencer Cranor and a brother, Earl Cranor.

Graveside services for Mr. Cranor will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at 3:30 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice.


Carolyn Marie King

Mrs. Carolyn Marie King, age 48, of Santa Maria, Calif., died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 in Santa Maria.

Mrs. King lived in Santa Monica, Calif. for 28 years, was employed at Russco Inc. and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church were she served as the men's choir director, treasurer and financial secretary.

Mrs. King is survived by two daughters, Carlotta Washington of Morrillton and Aisha Merritt of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 sisters, Emma Woodard of Forrest City, Helen Dumas of Madison, Mary McGilvery of Petal, Sadonia Young, Hallie Webb, Lucinda Maize, Judy Turner, Debra Knowlton and Tina Tuberville all of Jonesboro, Cindy Knowlton of San Francisco, Calif., Lillie Bradley of McCrory, and Felicia Knowlton of West Memphis. She is also survived by four brothers, Johnny Knowlton Sr. and Esau Knowlton both of Chicago, Ill., Larry Knowlton Sr. of Forrest City and Ken Knowlton of Jonesboro; and three grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. King will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Woodard Funeral Service in Wynne. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the St. John M.B. Church in Madison with Rev. James Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John M.B. Church Cemetery. Woodard Funeral Service of Jonesboro is in charge of all arrangements.


Eva Stanley

Mrs. Eva Stanley, age 77, of Blossom, Texas, died Wednesday Nov. 19, 2003, in Texas.

Mrs. Stanley was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Forrest City, the daughter of Charlie Lee and Effie Morris Parker. She taught at a daycare.

Mrs. Stanley married Preston Stanley in 1943 and he preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Gary Stanley of Fulton, Ky.; a daughter, Ann Fleming of Paris, Texas; one sister, Fronia Gunn; several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Marshal Parker and two sisters, Katheryn Poe and Vernel Lee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stanley will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery.


William Edward "Bill" Terhune

Mr. William Edward "Bill" Terhune, age 86, of Brinkley, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Springhill Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock.

Mr. Terhune was born August 7, 1917, in Brinkley, the son of Carl Edward and Claudia Mae Smith Terhune. He lived in Brinkley for all of his life and worked for Wylie Funeral Home for many years. He also worked for Colonial Bakery, was a member of the Brinkley Fire Department for 51 years and served chief for many years. Mr. Terhune was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brinkley.

Mr. Terhune is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Smith Terhune of Brinkley; a daughter, Barbara Terhune Shell of Little Rock and a grandson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at the Presbyterian Church in Brinkley. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery in Brinkley. The Fowler Funeral Home of Brinkley was in charge of all arrangements.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Brinkley Presbyterian Church, the Brinkley Fire Department or a charity of the givers choice.


Mr. Dana Warren Walker

Dana Warren Walker, 69, of Little Rock died Tuesday, November 18, 2003, in Little Rock. He was born January 18, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Walker served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent over 20 years with Sanyo and Warwick in Forrest City, Arkansas and the last 13 years as a funeral director/embalmer in central Arkansas. He was currently employed at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents Francis Marion (F.M.) and Hazel Smith Walker and one daughter, Doris Ann. He will be missed and longed to be seen again in Heaven by his wife Delia (Dee), children Glenn Walker, Mitchell Walker, Lisa Walker Murphy and partner Ken Beck, and Steven and wife Janet Walker; grandchildren, Alesha Murphy, Katrina, Joshua, Ryan, and Stuart Walker. He is also survived by a brother, Roland M. Walker of Houston, Texas and step-mother Lillian Walker of Pedal, Mississippi and 4 half brothers and 2 half sisters.

Visitation will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, November 21. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 22, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home. (224-8300)

Lela Ola Weier

Mrs. Lela Ola Weier, age 88, of Hammond, La., and formerly of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2003, in Louisiana.

Mrs. Weier, born July 14, 1915, in the Yocona Community in St. Francis County. She was the daughter John and Mittie Todd and lived in Forrest City until moving to Louisiana. Mrs. Weier was the owner of the Hilltop Dairy Bar and a member of the Civic Center catering staff.

Mrs. Weier is survived by one son, Walter Weier of Holden, La.; two sisters, Louise Montgomery of Forrest City and Ruby Hellekson of Silver City, N.M.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Weier Sr. and a son Charles Weier Jr.

Memorial may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Forrest City Public Library.
