MARIANNA -- The Forrest City Junior Mustangs suffered a setback Monday, but the Junior Lady Mustangs continued their winning ways.

At Marianna, the Junior Mustangs lost for the first time this season, as Marianna's Junior Trojans used a 16-to-7 fourth period to take a 56-44 win.

The game was a rematch between the two teams, who had played at Mustang Arena last week. Forrest City won that game easily.

"They came after pretty hard," Junior Mustang Coach Jimmy Williams said. "They took it to us and we didn't respond like I thought we should have."

The first thing Marianna did was shut down freshman guard Stephon Weaver, holding the team's scoring leader to just 11 points and five offensive rebounds.

Weaver had been averaging close to 24 points per game in the first two contests of the year.

Marcus Britt picked up some of the scoring slack by putting up 18 points and had 11 rebounds and three steals.

Rylan Nimocks had five offensive rebounds for the Junior Mustangs.

Marianna led 12-8 after one period and then 24-19 at the half.

Forrest City stayed within three points -- 40-37 after three periods before suffering the low scoring fourth period.

The Junior Mustangs fall to 2-1 for the year and will return to play on Monday, Dec. 1, when they take on the Junior Jackets at Wynne.

In the junior girls' game, Matisha Dobbins poured in 14 points to lead the Junior lady Mustangs to a 40-23 win over Marianna.

Forrest City improves to 3-0 for the season.

It was the second win over Marianna for Forrest City, who defeated the Junior Lady Trojans at Mustang Arena last week.

Fareeda Washington added nine points in the win while Cassie Barton added five and Astrin Allen helped out with four points.

The Junior Lady Mustangs led 24-19 at the end of three periods and put the game out of reach by outscoring Marianna 16-to-4 in the final period.

"It was still a close ball game going into the fourth," said Forrest City Coach Jacky England. "Marianna just kind of hung around, like they did at our place, and we never put them away until late."

The Junior Lady Mustangs will play Wynne on Monday, Dec. 2.

In other basketball action,, Hughes is scheduled to play at Wynne tonight while Palestine-Wheatley is scheduled to host Marked Tree.

The Palestine-Wheatley triple-header tips at 5:30 p.m. while Hughes and Wynne start at 5 p.m.
