Lonnie Bowers

Mr. Lonnie Bowers, age 87, of Colt, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Bowers was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Widener, the son of Calub Bowers and Sylvia Crawford Bowers. He was retired from St. Ann Lumber Company in St. Louis, Mo. and Ball Lumber Company of Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Augusta Woods Bowers of Colt; a daughter, Myra Hamberry of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Lewis Edwards of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mr. Bowers will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. A wake will also be held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., also at the Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Poplar Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Mitchell Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Grove Community Cemetery in Colt.


James E. White

Mr. James E. "Jim" White, age 76, of Haynes, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at the Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.

Mr. White was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Parkin and lived in St. Francis County most of his life. He was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Rondo Baptist Church.

Mr. White married Helen Beashers in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1989. He married Emma Potts Maxwell in 1997 and she survives him along with three sons, James White Jr. of Wynne, Ricky White and Terry White both of Forrest City; a daughter, Barbara Matlock of Granbury, Texas; two step-sons, John Maxwell of Jacksonville and Richard Maxwell of Forrest City; three step-daughters, Margie Turner of Fort Worth, Texas, Viola Threat of Conway and Linda Pressgrove of West Memphis; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. White will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery.
