Junior Mustangs still a contender to share the conference title

By FRED CONLEY

T-H Sports Editor

If the Forrest City Junior Mustangs can win out in their final two games they have a shot at possibly sharing the AAAAA-East Conference title.

Going into tonight's junior high games, Jonesboro Annie Camp holds the league top spot. The Whirlwinds are unbeaten in conference but do have one tie.

West Memphis West is tied for second with the Junior Mustangs, both teams with one loss each in the conference.

West and Annie Camp battled to a scoreless tie last week.

Forrest City is 4-2-1 overall, 4-1 in the league.

Both remaining dates are conference matchups -- tonight against West Memphis East and next Thursday against Blytheville, a team they defeated last week in a nonconference matchup, set up when Forrest City returned to just one junior high team this season.

Annie Camp has West Memphis Wonder and Jonesboro MacArthur remaining.

Should Annie Camp slip against either of the two the door would be open for the Junior Mustangs to share the league title, provided they run into any slippery areas.

Forrest City's lone conference loss came against Annie Camp, a 7-6 final. The Junior Mustangs have already defeated West Memphis West.

In other junior high games tonight, the unbeaten Junior Blue Devils will take on Turrell.

A win tonight would set up an end-of-the-season showdown next week against unbeaten Marked Tree.

The Palestine-Wheatley Junior Patriots are coming off a big win over Parkin last Thursday in which quarterback Taylor Clark led the way by throwing three touchdown passes.

P-W will host unbeaten Marked Tree tonight at Wheatley, beginning at 6 p.m.
