MARIANNA -- Forrest City went to Marianna Friday night expecting to win.
They did, 46-0, to extend their win streak over the Trojans to four straight.
The shut out win was Forrest City's fifth against Marianna since 1990 and the 10th time in that same time frame that the Mustangs have held Marianna to less than 10 points.
Forrest City evens their record at 1-1 overall and has one more nonconference game -- Friday at Osceola -- before starting AAAAA-East Conference play.
Osceola lost to West Memphis 34-27 last Friday.
A year ago, Forrest City downed the Seminoles 18-0 and the year before Forrest City was awarded a forfeit win over Osceola after the Seminoles won the game 18-6 but used an ineligible player on the field.
In other games involving AAAAA-East Conference teams Friday, Cabot defeated Little Rock Fair 24-6; Jacksonville defeated North Pulaski 23-7 in the annual City Bowl; Searcy and Batesville battled to a 23-23 tie; Blytheville lost to Poplar Bluff, Mo. 10-7; Rogers beat Mountain Home 40-7 and Wynne defeated Jonesboro 34-28.
The Palestine-Wheatley Patriots held Earle to just 93 yards of total offense Friday and used a pair of touchdown passes from junior quarterback Fred Leak to put away the Bulldogs 24-6 at Patriot Stadium.
The Patriots are 2-0 for the season and 1-0 in the 3AA Conference.
Leak had touchdown passes of 35 and 40 yards -- both to Brad Barton and added a 25-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. Barton closed out the scoring with a 34-yard run.
Leak finished with 91 yards and one touchdown to help the Patriots to 250 total yards of offense.
The Bulldogs scored wiith four minutes to play in the game on a Hail-Mary pass play that went for a 55-yard touchdown, but missed the conversion opportunity.
Leak hooked up with Barton with 9:18 to play in the second quarter for a 35-yard TD pass but failed to convert the two-point play and took a 6-0 lead into the half.
Leak's 40-yard scoring pass to barton with 2:50 to play in the third made it 12-0 as the Patriots again missed the extra point try.
Leak's 45-yard run with 6:39 in the fourth made it 18-0 before the Bulldogs cut it to 18-6 with their touchdown pass.
Barton's 34-yard run closed it out.
Palestine-Wheatley will host Cross County Friday night.
Friday night, Rolandas Hill carried 14 times for 250 yards and five touchdowns to lead Cross County's 49-6 rout of Rector Friday in a 3AA Conference game.
Senior tailback Andre Walker scored three touchdowns to help the Hughes Blue Devils to a 39-13 win over Walnut Ridge Friday in high school football.
Walker scored on a 15-yard second-quarter run that put Hughes ahead to stay at 13-6.
His 31-yard return of a recovered fumble made it 19-6 and his 42-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter put Hughes ahead 32-6 at halftime.
Johnny Peyton scored three times for Hughes as the Blue Devils evened their season mark at 1-1 and 1-0 in the 3AA Conferemce.
The Blue Devils host Rector Friday night at Blue Devil Stadium.
Walnut Ridge falls to 0-2 for the year and 0-1 in the league.
In other games involving 3AA Conference teams Friday, Marked Tree held off Salem 40-34.
The Forrest City junior varsity Mustangs will host Brinkley tonight at Sam Smith Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
The JV Mustangs are 1-0 for the year after defeating Wynne last Monday.
Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 5:30 p.m., Forrest City will host Wynne in a seventh and eighth-grade doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m., at Sam Smith Stadium.
The seventh-grade Mustangs are 0-1 after losing to West Memphis East last week while the eighth-grade team is 1-0 after defeating West Memphis East.
Immediately preceding Tuesday's game, the seventh-grade Mustang team will have team and individual photos taken at Lincoln Gym.
The annual Forrest City Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament and Barbeque will be held Monday, Sept. 29, at the Forrest City Country Club.
The golf tournament will be a four-person scramble and teams will tee off at 1 p.m., following an 11:30 a.m. lunch at the club.
Entry fees are $50 per person with an added $15 per person fee for cart rental. Registration deadline is Thursday, Sept. 25.
