Errors keep Pats winless

Clarendon kept the Palestine-Wheatley Patriot baseball winless Thursday despite a solid pitching effort from freshman Taylor Clark.

Through six innings, Clark gave up only three hits and struck out 10 in the Patriots' 9-1 loss to the Lions at Clarendon.

The Patriots committed 11 fielding errors making only one of the nine Clarendon runs earned.

The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added three more runs in the fourth to make it a 5-0 lead.

The Patriots scored in the top of the sixth when Ricky Thorne used a Clarendon error to get on base.

The Lions plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score.

The Patriots will face Barton on Monday.

The Forrest City Mustangs will step away from AAAAA-East Conference play today for a nonconference game at Brinkley. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

In other prep games played Thursday, Osceola defeated Manila 8-7 in 10 innings; Valley View shut out Brookland, 15-0 in four innings; Pocahontas swept a doubleheader from Westside winning 10-5 and 5-4; Marked Tree put away EPC 9-2; Riverside defeated Hughes 12-1 and Cross County crushed Wynne 6-1


Lady Eagles split DH with MRoad

The Calvary Christian Lady Eagles earned a split in Thursday's softball doubleheader against Macon Road.

Calvary won the nightcap 6-4, getting two runs from Kriston Hogland and single runs from Meredith Borden, Katie McNair and Christy Tittle.

Hannah McMahand picked up the pitching victory.

Macon Road took the opening game of the twinbill, winning 21-6.

Megan Best led Calvary by scoring twice while McNair, Hogland, Tittle and McMahand each scored single runs.

The Lady Eagles do not play again until April 15, when they host SW Christian from Little Rock.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs will host Palestine-Wheatley today at the Sports Complex in a 4 p.m. start.

The Lady Mustangs are coming off back-to-back doubleheader losses to Mountain Home on Monday and to Jacksonville on Tuesday.

The Lady Patriots have not played since March 23 and are 1-1 for the year.

In Thursday softball action it was Valley View 16, Gosnell 0; Nettleton 5, Hoxie 2; Trumann 28-14, Osceola 1-1; Rector 17, CRA 0; Walnut Ridge 8, Riverside 4.
