Mrs. Vera Marie Peoples Bailey, age 86 of Forrest City, Arkansas,
died Wednesday, July 28, 2004. Mrs. Bailey, the daughter of Alpheus
and Octie Peoples, was born April 18, 1918, in Forrest City.
She attended Lincoln High School and later became the oldest
member to attend that school's reunion. She attended A.M.&N.
College in Pine Bluff to enhance her seamstress ability. She worked
in several vocations during her lifetime including a domestic
engineering, as well as an employee at the Cotton Gin and Compress.
She married Mr. Sylvester Bailey in 1938 and later bore nine children;
of which three died shortly after birth.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by six (6) children; Clifton (LaVerne)
Bailey and Rebecca Lewis (Thomas) Jones of Forrest City, Charlean
(Willie Raye) Dickson of Upland, CA, Jean (Norman) Woods of Pomona,
CA, Jeanetta (Theo) Hamiter of Indianapolis, IN, and Oneida (Wayne)
Wilson of San Jose, CA,; eighteen (18) grand-children, and thirty-three
(33) great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister;
Eloise Peoples Lyons of Thompson, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews
and other relatives.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2004, at 5:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church located at 306 East Cross Street, Forrest City, AR. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church; Rev; S. W. Baker, Pastor. Burial services will follow at the Castell Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home.
Rev. Alfred Reid Cullum, age 73, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at his daughter's home in Forrest City.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. The Stevens Funeral home will be in charge of all arrangements.
