Mr. Overtus Brinker, age 76, of Caldwell, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Brinker, born April 19, 1928, in Caldwell, was the retired owner of Brinker Handle and Square Mill. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Brinker of Caldwell; two sons, Elbert Brinker of Phoenix, Ariz. and Ronald Wayne Brinker of Gary Ind.; five daughters, Claudean Nance, Phyllis Ann Smith and Deborah Gregory all of Gary, Ind., Lisa Prince of Little Rock and Sheneka Davis of Colt. He is also survived by a sister, Corine Kendrick of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Brinker will be held on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Moriah M.B. Church on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Connie Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery in Caldwell.
FELTON, AR Daniel Henry Felton, Jr., planter, merchant
and ginner, died August 12, 2004, in the home where he was born,
on the land he loved. Born July 1, 1920, in Felton, he was the
oldest child of Daniel Henry Felton and Felecia Curtis Felton.
In October 2003, he and his wife, Counts McCollum Felton, celebrated
their 59th wedding anniversary. He was a loving and supportive
husband and friend, and an inspiring and playful father and grandfather.
A man of faith, compassion, and dignity, he served for many years
as a Trustee and Board Member of the First United Methodist Church
in Marianna.
Mr. Felton attended Gulf Coast Military Academy (Biloxi, MS)
before graduating from T.A. Futrall High School in Marianna in
1939. He attended the University of Arizona for three years, but
interrupted his education to move back home to assist his grandfather
and father in their farming operations. His lifelong vocation
was the creation and management of family owned agricultural and
investment businesses. He served as President of the Arkansas
Registered Angus Association and the Agricultural Council of Arkansas,
and for 30 years as Chairman of the Lee County Democratic Central
Committee. He served on the Arkansas State Board of Education,
Commission on Higher Educational Finance, Arkansas Industrial
Development Commission, and St. Francis Levee Board. For many
years he served as a Board Member of the First National Bank at
Marianna and the Marianna/Lee County School District.
He is survived by his wife, Counts McCollum Felton; sons, Daniel
Henry Felton III and Richard Trent Felton, both of Felton; and
daughter, Counts Felton Smith, of Wynne, AR; nine grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his two
sisters and brother, Amy Helen Felton, Mary Catherine Felton Nowlin,
and John Fulbright Felton.
A memorial service following a private burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 13, at First United Methodist Church in Marianna. The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Trent Felton, and requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, Poplar and Mississippi Streets, Marianna, AR 72360. Stevens Funeral Home of Forrest City will be in charge or arrangements.
Mrs. Eunice Bonds Huffstuttler, age 92, formerly of Wynne and Colt, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Huffstuttler was born Oct. 5, 1911, in Colt, the daughter of Joseph Bonds and Leta Peevey Bonds. She was a 1929 graduate of Forrest City High School and lived in Colt before moving to Wynne in 1999. She was an active member of the Colt United Methodist Church for over 60 years, taught Sunday school and played piano. She was also a member of the Methodist Women's Society.
Mrs. Huffstuttler married Oliver K. Huffstuttler in 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by a son, Ted Huffstuttler of Colt; a daughter, Ouida Brawner of Wynne; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Tolise Tittle.
Visitation for Mrs. Huffstuttler will be held on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery.
Mr. William Isom Sr., age 73, of Palestine, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mr. Isom was born Jan. 9, 1931, in the Newcastle community. He was the son of Tommie Isom and Beatrice Isom and was a former resident of St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Isom is survived by his wife, Dessie Lacy Isom of Palestine; three daughters, Jerrie Whitaker, Vanessa Isom and Lanette Blackmon, all of St. Louis, Mo.; three sons, William Isom Jr. of Caldwell, Bobby Isom and Roderick Isom, both of St. Louis; three sisters, Bertha Sykes of Palestine, Bettie Willis and Dorothy Weaver, both of St. Louis; one brother, Lewis Isom also of St. Louis; 26 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Isom will be held on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Pine Tree Church of God in Christ with Elder Nathaniel Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow in Jericho Cemetery.
