Mr. Jefferson Davis "Jeff" Smith Sr., age 88, of Fayetteville, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004.
Mr. Smith served in the Civilian Conservation Corps., was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and had a lengthy career in civil service. He was an active member of Gideons International for 38 years and was the chaplain of the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also an active member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Jeff Smith Jr. of Albany, Ga. and Garry Smith of Fayetteville, Ga.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Mary Nell Smith earlier this year.
Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Ga. from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Parrish, Rev. Jim Ellison and Rev. Maria Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville, Ga.
