The Marianna Lady Trojans were two points better than they were the first time they played Forrest City, but the two points made little difference.
Playing at Marianna Monday, the Lady Mustangs defeated Marianna 65-19. In the first meeting at Mustang Arena, Forrest City rolled 65-17.
The Lady Mustangs, 6-5, got 21 points from senior forward Sequoria Grady and 16 points from sophomore guard Fareedah Washington. Senior Nicole Parker added six points while Shari Rogers and LaShundra Rogers finished with five points each.
Forrest City does not play again until Jan. 7, when they host Jacksonville to open AAAAA-East Conference play.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Jacksonville 60-41 at the Mount St. Mary's Tournament last month.
JONESBORO -- Brooks Taylor scored 24 points and ignited a 13-0 run to end the third quarter as the top-seeded Buffalo Island Central Mustangs ran past Swifton 75-54 and into the A-AA boys semifinals keeping alive hopes for a repeat title at the Northeast Arkansas Invitational tournament.
BIC will play Cave City today at 4:30 p.m.
BIC's Josh Nettles buried one of his three '3's and Eric Wallace scored twice on back-side cuts as the Mustangs picked up momentum and carried a 40-27 lead into the break as Brandon Ballard held for the last shot, then drained a pull-up '3' from the top of the key with :03 left.
BIC (20-3) continued the momentum in the third period and clamped down on defense.
Taylor finished off the 13-0 run with a long pass to Ballard, who dropped in a layup for a 55-30 lead at the end of the period.
Ballard finished with 16 points for the Mustangs while Nettles added 15.
In other A-AA boys games played Tuesday EPC swept past Bay 62-49; Marmaduke downed Riverside 72-68 and Cave City ousted ICC 59-43.
BIC (14-2) had erased a 12-point halftime deficit and was leading 53-50 at the time, and went on to advance to the A-AA semifinals with a 64-63 win.
The win sets up a semifinal meeting with Piggott.
Jessica Shepard scored 25 points to lead BIC, while Stephanie Bulridge added 21, and Nan Lee Bridges 16.
In other A-AA girls' quarterfinal action Tuesday, Cave City defeated Weiner 48-30, Sloan-Henrdix beat Izard County Consolidated 49-45, and Piggott beat Riverside 48-45.
Valley View knocked off Westside 53-43 Tuesday at the Convocation Center in a 3A-4A-5A girls' quarterfinal of the Northeast Arkansas Invitational.
The win puts them against Pocahontas today at 3 p.m.
In other games Tuesday, Rivercrest downed Nettleton 61-36; Pocahontas ousted Highland 47-36 and manila slipped past Trumann 45-41.
Matt Garner scored 20 points and top-seeded Jonesboro dominated inside with its size advantage to bull past Westside 69-36 in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Arkansas Invitational basketball tournament at the Convocation Center.
In search of its first NEA title since 1998, JHS takes on fifth-seeded Rivercrest in tonight's 6 p.m. semifinal game.
Rivercrest ran past Nettleton 64-49.
In tonight's second semifinal, Blytheville will meet Hghland at 9 p.m. Blytheville downed Manila 67-54 while Highland upset Batesville 47-29.
JACKSONVILLE -- The Little Rock Mills Comets never gave Jacksonville a chance to get to the finals of their own tournament.
In semifinal action Tuesday at the Gwatney Chevrolet Red Devil Classic, Damakon Brown scored 11 points to help push the Comets' past the host team Red Devils, 82-57.
Mills moves into the tournament's championship game to face North Little Rock tonight at 8:30 p.m.
Brown, a 6-1 senior, scored nine points in four-minutes, taking the Comets from a two point lead to a nine-point cushion.
Mills improves to 8-3 while the Red Devils slip to 5-6.
Reggie Tims led the Comets with 17 points, including 5 three-pointers.
Jacksonville's Lavar Neely paced the Red Devils, scoring 17 points in less than three quarters of playing time.
*The top-ranked North Little Rock Charging Wildcats rallied for a 50-46 win over Sylvan Hills Tuesday which put the Cats into the championship game of the Red Devils Classic.
Anthony Randolph scored 21 points for NLR while Freddie Robinson added 14.
Sylvan Hills, led by Mike Gross' 16 points, led 39-33 to start the fourth period.
*In the consolation bracket of the tournament, Quincy Maxfield scored 14 points in the second half to lead Conway past Little Rock Central 48-35.
Mickey Dean led Central with nine points.
*Chad Glover scored 18 points to help lead the Cabot Panthers past Little Rock Catholic 64-60 Tuesday.
Steve Quick added 14 for Cabot while Eric Von Wald finished with 12 points.
Rachel Jones scored 23 points to lead Little Rock Central (9-3) to a 64-49 semifinal win over Bentonville Tuesday and into today's championship game at the Gwatney Chevrolet Red Devil Classic.
Central will face either Little Rock Hall or Little Rock McClellan in todays girls' final at 7 p.m.
*Charreka Conners scored 17 points to lead Jacksonville's Lady Red Devils (4-8) past Hope 52-48 Tuesday.
*Lakendra Spates poured in 25 points as West Helena defeated Pine Bluff Dollarway 72-61 Tuesday.
Meoshi Bradley led Dollarway with 27 points.
