Mrs. Deffie Mae Gates, age 68, of Madison, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2004, in Memphis. She was a cook.
Mrs. Gates is survived by a daughter, Gloria Hawkins of Mesquite, Texas; a son, Lee Gates of Madison; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Gates.
Visitation for Mrs. Gates will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the St. John M.B. Church in Madison. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the St. John M.B. Church. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. The M.J. Edwards Whitehaven Funeral Home of Memphis is in charge of all arrangements.
