Frances Jackson Cook

Mrs. Frances Jackson Cook, age 71, of Pine Tree, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at St. Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Cook was born Jan. 14, 1932, in Pine Tree, the daughter of Laurel Lyman Jackson and Tolise Sullivant Jackson. She lived in the Pine Tree area for most of her life and worked for General Industries for 19 years.

Mrs. Cook married Vernon Cook in 1953 and he survives her along with an aunt, Bessie Hemphill of Jackson, Miss. and two cousins, Alice Haynes and Justin Neill, both of Pine Tree.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cook were held graveside on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Barnishaw Cemetery in Pine Tree with Rev. Charles Bradley officiating. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.


Barbara Jean Starkey Pippin

Mrs. Barbara Jean Starkey Pippin, age 57, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Crestpark Nursing Home in Forrest City.

Mrs. Pippin was born April 11, 1946, in Forrest City, the daughter of Calvin Starkey Sr. and Vera Jane Milton Starkey. She lived in Forrest City for most of her life, was a housewife and a Baptist.

Mrs. Pippin married William Howard Pippin in 1984 and he survives her along with a son, George Phillip Starkey of Michigan; two daughters, Amy Charmain Nickerson and Michelle Diane Tennant, both of Michigan; three brothers, Calvin Starkey Jr. of Birdeye, Robert Lee Starkey and James Starkey, both of Forrest City; four sisters, Elizabeth Barnett of Forrest City, Lola Mae Ethridge and Mary Ann Cofield, both of Colt and Martha Herman of Florida, and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mrs. Pippin will be held graveside at Forrest Park Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at 3 p.m. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.


Carolyn Marie Simmons

Mrs. Carolyn Marie Simmons, age 63, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at her home.

Mrs. Simmons, born Dec. 28, 1940, in Forrest City, was the daughter of Paul Clark and Bertsie Stewart Clark. Mrs. Simmons, a retired painter, was a former resident of Mountain Home where she lived until 1988.

In 1958, Mrs. Simmons married James A .Simmons and he preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by a daughter, Bethany Marie Duran of Jacksonville; one son, James Alan Simmons of Forrest City; her mother, of Forrest City; two brothers, Paul Wayne Clark of Wynne and Danny Clark of Forrest City; two sisters, Kathryn May of Forrest City and Bonnie Cox of Centerville, Tenn., and seven grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Simmons will be held on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Tucker Cemetery in Mountain Home.


William S. "Doc" White

Mr. William S. "Doc" White, age 75, of Olive Branch, Miss., died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Methodist Hospital ­ Germantown.

Mr. White, a retiree from the Shelby County School District, was a member of First Baptist Church in Collierville, Tenn., and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He is survived by a daughter, Leigh White Trail of Forrest City; two sons, William Edward White of Olive Branch and Andrew S. White of Germantown; a sister, Doris Ryan of Collierville; a brother, S.Q. White Jr. of Germantown; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife, Murlene Lamar White.

Funeral services for Mr. White will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial will follow in Memorial Park South Woods.

The family requests memorials be made to the Kirby Woods Baptist Mission Fund or First Baptist Church of Forrest City.
