Mrs. Ruth Shelton, age 84, of Forrest City, died Saturday, July 17, 2004.
Mrs. Shelton was born Dec. 28, 1919, in St. Francis County, the daughter of Arch L. Kelso Sr. and Julia Marie Wall Kelso. She made her home in Forrest City for all of her life and was a housewife.
Mrs. Shelton married Clifford Shelton and he preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived by two sisters, Allie Shepherd of Wynne and Charlene K. Edmondson of Memphis and two grandchildren. A son, Donald Ray Hall preceded her in death in 2002.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Shelton were held on Tuesday,
July 20, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Hughes Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home
was in charge of all arrangements.
Mr. Oswald Sparks, age 73, of Marianna, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Sparks was born April 29, 1931, in Marianna, the son of Claude Turner Sparks and Dorothy Gwathney. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired HUD director and worked for the Housing Authority. He was a Methodist.
Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Nancy Zeiger Sparks of Marianna; a daughter, Cindy Sparks of Hot Springs; two sons, Jimmy Sparks of Marianna and Rusty Sparks of Little Rock; a brother, Donald Joe Sparks of Marianna and five grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Sparks were held on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna, with Rev. Jimmie Kirkwood officiating. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
