Early morning shooting sends one to BMH-FC

Gunfire in apartment complex leaves one man wounded; FCPD investigating

A shooting this morning in the Rice and Mann Housing project sent a 21-year old Forrest City man Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.

According to a report from the Forrest City Police Department, 21-year old Larry Watts was injured after shooting erupted at 120 Mann St. this morning. According to the report, a teenage girl living in the apartment told officers that she was asleep when she heard glass breaking.

Another person in the apartment, Robert Watts, no age given, then burst into the room and told the teen to get on the floor.

According to the report, Robert Watts told officers that he thought he was the intended target in the shooting. Watts told officers that someone had allegedly placed a reward out for his murder.

Officers were able to collect several bullets from the scene, including three taken from a wall in the apartment. Larry Watts was treated for his injuries and released from BMH-FC.

According to the report along with Robert Watts, Larry Watts and the teenage girl, another woman and three infant children were in the apartment at the time of the incident. The FCPD was still investigating the case as of press time.


Counterfiet bills surface

Three instances of counterfeit 20-dollar bills were reported in Forrest City Saturday and Sunday.

The first report came from Food Giant on Saturday, where it was reported that a clerk had taken in a phony 20. A report also came in from Flash Market reported a similar incident soon after that.

On Sunday, two counterfeit 20s were discovered to have been used at Burger King.

The incidents are being investigated by Forrest City Police.


Sixty-seven have early-voted

The early voting numbers stood 67 this morning at the St. Francis County Clerk's office. The early voting, which is being held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Monday, Aug. 2, is being held for the special election on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

Voters will decide on next Tuesday whether or not Forrest City will be allowed to transfer $125,000 of its portion of the countywide solid waste tax to the Forrest City Area Chamber of Commerce to be used for industrial recruitment and to hire an executive director. The $125,000 would be given to the Chamber for four years and taxes will not increase.
