Mrs. Melissa Annette Callahan, age 47, of Colt, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Callahan was born Dec. 26, 1956, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Floyd Wilson Laird and Teewahnee Grayhorse Laird. She lived in St. Francis County for all of her life, was employed with the Forrest City Public Schools and was a Baptist.
Mrs. Callahan married James Callahan in 1974 and he survives her along with two sons, Jeff Callahan of Olive Branch, Miss., and Wesley Callahan of Colt; a daughter, Becky Callahan of Colt; and her mother of Forrest City. She is also survived by two brothers, Eddie Laird and Kevin Laird both of Forrest City; two sisters, Floyetta Hambrick of Forrest City and Renee Shelton of Hickman, Tennessee.
Funeral services for Mrs. Callahan were held on Sunday, May 2, 2004, in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Judy Yvonne Foote, age 60, of Forrest City, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Foote was born Nov. 11, 1943, in Earle, the daughter of Clarence Martin and Lillian Raymond Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shell Lake Baptist Church.
Mrs. Foote married Paul McVey Foote in 1968 and he survives her along with two sons, McVey Foote of Marion and Ken Frank Foote of Forrest City; a daughter, Yvonne Foote of Warrenton, Mo.; five brothers, Ronald Martin and Russell Martin both of Heth, Walter Martin of Bartlett, Tenn., Carroll Martin of Tennessee and Ralph Martin of Kansas; three sisters, Lois Laws and Louise Bounds both of Heth and Earline Martin of Kansas and six grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Foote will be held on Monday, May 3, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held graveside on Tuesday, May 6, 2004, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Bennie Lou Hand, age 75, of Forrest City, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Hand was born May 15, 1928, in Plantersville, Miss., the daughter of David Ernest Greenhill and Callie Ann Moore Greenhill. She made her home in Forrest City for most of her life, was a housewife and a Baptist.
Mrs. Hand married Clifton Hand in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by four daughters, Judy Terry of Rogers, Carolyn Hall of Horn Lake, Miss, Dorotha Shelton of Hernando, Miss and Veta Trail of Forrest City; a son, Jimmy W. Hand of Forrest City; two sisters, Belle Hand and Pearl Roark both of Marked Tree; one brother, Charles Greenhill of Albertsville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hand were held on Monday, May 3, 2004, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Dean Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mr. James Terrel Milton, age 70, of Searcy and a former longtime resident of Birch Run Mich. and Colt, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at White County Medical Center in Searcy.
Mr. Milton was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Wynne, the son of the late Fred Slone Milton and Ludie Mae Neisler Milton. He lived in Colt and the Fitzgerald Crossing Community near Wynne for most of his life until moving to Michigan. He resided in Birch Run, Mich. for 23 years before returning to Searcy seven years ago.
In 1972, Mr. Milton married Shirley Ann Forrest and she survives him along with two sons, Randall Harris of Wynne and Clayton Harris of Forrest City; five daughters, Terry Thorn of St. Charles, Ill., Charlene Lyon of Petoskey, Mich., Suzanne Olsey of Grand Blanc, Mich., Diane Beavers of Montrose, Mich. and Mary Gibbons of Flushing, Mich.; one sister, Lola Reynolds of Searcy; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Milton was preceded in death by two brothers, Murell Milton and Gerald Milton.
Funeral services for Mr. Milton were held on Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. The family requests memorials be made to the Leukemia Foundation or to the American Lung Association.
Mrs. Lucy Evelyn Shackleford, age 82, of Byhalia, Miss. and formerly of Forrest City, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at her son's home in Mississippi.
Mrs. Shackleford was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Palestine, the daughter of James Rogers Hicks and Sarah Poindexter Hicks. She lived in Forrest City for most of her life and was retired from education working at Forrest City Public Schools, Wynne, Caldwell, Brinkley and East Arkansas Community College. She taught music, was a member of the Musical Coterie, the M.E.N.C. and a member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shackleford married David Harold Shackleford in 1945 and he survives her along with three sons, James C. Shackleford of Washington, David G. Shackleford of Byhalia, Miss. and Joseph H. Shackelford of Texas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shackleford were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2004 at First Baptist Church. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs, Miss. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
