Mrs. Joyce Evelyn Borden Jones, age 63, of Palestine, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Jones was born April 2, 1941, in Glen, Miss., the daughter of David Glen Borden and Meckie Mae Johnson Borden. She was a retired postmaster having served in that capacity in Palestine and Hardy and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Forrest Chapter 531. Mrs. Jones was also a past president of the Optimist Club in Hardy.
Mrs. Jones married James Edward Jones in 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by four daughters, LaVeta Jones Ross, Gloria Jones Christian and Laurie Jones Hoots all of Palestine and Tina Jones Ungerank of Pocahontas; three sisters, Marie Miller of Forrest City, Doris Waggoner of Hot Springs and Phyllis Autry of Palestine; two brothers, Donald Borden of Temple, Pa. and Jerry Borden of Powderly, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jones was also preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Kathleen Jones; a son, James Edward Jones Jr. and a grandson, Jonathan Duane Conder II.
Visitation for Mrs. Jones will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.
