Taylor Glass held off Cochran Auto and held onto first place in the Junior Babe Ruth League Thursday.
Led by a strong pitching performance from Barrett Beshears, who took over for starter Garritt Clark after the first inning, Taylor stopped Cochran in the top of the fifth inning to take an 8-7 win.
Taylor improves to 4-1 in the league while Cochran slips to 2-2. It was the second meeting of the year between the two teams. Taylor won the first meeting 10-6 back on May 10.
Cochran opened a 4-0 lead in the top of the first off Clark. Beshears took over with no outs.
Taylor scored two runs in the bottom of the first but Cochran pushed their lead to 5-2 with a run in the top of the third. Taylor answered with three runs in the bottom part of the third inning to tie the game at 5-5.
Cochran regained a 6-5 lead with a run in the fourth before Taylor scored three times in the home half of the inning to lead 8-6.
Cochran scrapped for a run in the top of he fifth but watched the game end with runners stranded at second and third.
Taylor got two runs from Findley Scott Laws and Adam Hughes and single runs from Beshears, Donnie Willis, Jr., James Green and Desmond Pigue.
Justin Cochran and Torre Hunter scored two runs each for Cochran while Kenny Norman, Nathan Jefferson and Demario Peters scored single runs.
In other JBR action Thursday, FC Health Club defeated Rotary Club for the second time this season.
Led by four runs from Markese Ware, who also pitched four strong innings, Health Club rolled over Rotary 20-4.
Henry Malone, Doug Miller, Trenton Ware and Dale Boyd all contributed by scoring three runs each. Chauncey Boles, William Franklin, Ashton Hunt and Demarko Peters scored single runs.
Miller started and faced two batters before ware took over and finished up by holding Rotary to two runs on two hits and five walks with eight strike outs.
J.R. McKinney, William Burks and D.J. Downing scored runs for Rotary.

The Arkansas Electric team won its first game of the year Thursday in Minor (pitching machine) League play.
Arkansas Electric scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to slip past Ridout 6-5.
The Electric team moves to 1-4 for the year while Ridout slips to 2-4.
In the other Minor League game Thursday, Hartman Diesel improved to 6-1 for the year with a 14-2 win over Lions Club.
Terion Smith and Marques Casey combined to score four of Arkansas Electric's six runs. Jared Sidle and Aakash Peters added single runs.
Smith and Casey scored the fourth inning runs which held up for the win.
Cody Talley scored three times for Ridout.
Colby Hight and Zach Morris combined to score seven of Hartman's 14 runs in the teams win over Lions Club.
Ethan Deere and Trevontae Coulter scored three runs each.
Lions Club, 2-4 for the year, got single runs from Ryan Jayroe and Jake Lawson.
Weather permitting, Food Giant faces Vaccaro tonight and Easley draws Twillies Tigers.

Clay Funeral Home gave it their best shot.
Headed into the bottom of the fourth inning, Clay led Pizza Inn 12-10.
Pizza Inn responded with five runs to take a 15-10 win to stay unbeaten and in a tie for first place in the 16-under fast pitch girls' softball league.
Pizza Inn and Bonanza, a 5-0 winner over the Dixie Chix, are both 5-0 in league play.
In the other 16-under game played Thursday, it was Times-Herald taking an 11-8 win over Dr. St. John.
Clay scored five times in the top of the first to lead Pizza Inn 5-0 and added two runs for a 7-0 lead in the top of the second before Pizza Inn got on the board with a five-run second inning.
Three runs in the top of the third pushed Clay's lead to 10-5 before Pizza Inn tied the game at 10-10 with five runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Clay plated two runs in the fourth for the 12-10 lead.
Erin Marlowe led Pizza Inn by scoring three times. Shantal Driver, Chari Agnew, Sequoria Grady and White helped with two runs each.
Clay got two runs from Jasmine Scott, Amesha Barden and Ikeshia Chism.
Bonanza pitcher Stacey Gracey held the Dixie Chix, based out of Wynne, to no runs on just four hits Thursday in the team's 5-0 victory.
Bonanza scored two runs in the bottom of the first and added a single run in the second and two runs in the third.
Gracey, Leigh Anna Taylor, Amber Hart, Hannah McMahand and Lauren Dover each scored to help Bonanza.
Times-Herald improved to 3-2 for the year, good enough for second place in the league, by taking down Dr. St. John in three innings.
The St. John team led 5-3 after one inning but a five-run, second inning put Times-Herald in front 8-5.
St. John pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the second to knot the game at 8-8.
Times-Herald won the game with three runs in the top of the third and then held St. John scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.
Alicia Kennedy, Lindsey Renigar, D'Andrea Jenkins and Cassandra Jackson helped Times-Herald by scoring two runs each.
Madeline Lawrence accounted for two of St. John's runs while Ryan Cole, Christina Faulk, Kaylee Miller, Alex Dooley, Kadie Lockard and Hannah Davenport all scored single runs.
Delta Breeze stayed unbeaten at 4-0 Thursday on the strength of a 9-5 win over Crowley's in 12-under fast-pitch league play.
Delta scored five runs in the first inning to regain a 5-2 lead after falling behind 2-0.
The team never trailed again on the way to the win.
Bryanna McClanahan, Morgan Baldwin and Andrea Hall led Delta by scoring two runs each.
Crowley's got runs from Shaneka Barber, Sharicka Jones, Keisha Mayo and Kimberly Jones.
Food Giant scored its five-run limit in three of the four innings Thursday to take a 17-7 win over Giffin's.
Food Giant improves to 2-2 for the year while Giffin's remains winless.
Mishanna Morgan and Krystina Fort led Food Giant with three runs each.
Nikki Derrick, Cassie Holloway and Nakia Mason scored twice to lead Giffins.
One of the four unbeaten adult men's softball teams fell Thursday.
The remaining three stayed perfect and locked in a tie for first place in the league.
Kerby's scored four times in the bottom of he seventh inning to take a come-from-behind win over previously unbeaten Middle Busters.
Mark Main drove in the run to tie the game at 11-11 and then scored the game-winner for Kerby's from second base.
Middle Busters slip to 2-1 while Kerby's improves to 3-0.
Gym 2000 stayed perfect at 3-0 with a 19-14 win over the head Hunters and Wal Mart remained undefeated at 3-0 by taking down Laws Electric 17-7.
A&M Connection knocked off Food Giant 19-3.
In the adult women's softball league, Wal Mart slipped past Popeyes 7-6 while Chism Concrete stayed unbeaten using a 24-3 win over the Lady All Stars, 0-2 for the year.

It was more of the same in the Bambino (11-12) League Thursday as league-leading Lucas Trucking stayed unbeaten with a win over Derrick CPA.
Lucas moves to 6-0 for the year after downing Derrick 10-0.
Roberts Welding stayed in second place at 4-2 for the year with a 6-5 win over Mr. T Auto and Houser improved to 2-4 by taking down Cochran Auto 8-6.
The Bambino 9-10 League will play tonight, weather permitting.
Holding a slim 3-0 lead, Lucas Trucking erupted for seven runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach for Derrick, which had only one base runner in the game.
Derrick suffered eight strikeouts.
Henry Henderson led the way for Lucas by scoring three runs. Jim Bailey added two as did D.J. Banks.
Roberts led 6-3 over Mr. T, going into the top of the fifth and weathered a rally which saw Mr. T score two runs before leaving the potential tying run standing at first as the final out was recorded.
Josh Davis, Grant Smith and Tate Roberts all scored runs for Roberts Welding.
Mr. T Auto got runs from James Earle Humphrey, Jerrod Brown and Kenslon Young.
Houser pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to help hold off Cochran 8-6.
Jeffrey Siler, Derek Buchanan, Justin Crawford and Dendric McCoy all scored runs for Houser.
Lloyd Hamilton, Dontay, Brown, Chandler Sorrells and Devante Mitchell each contributed runs for the Cochran team.
